What is Assam PAT 2026?

Assam PAT stands for Assam Polytechnic Admission Test. It is the annual admission process for diploma-level engineering and technology programmes at government polytechnics across Assam. The process is managed by the Directorate of Technical Education (DTE), Assam and uses the Samarth portal for online application and counselling.

No entrance exam is conducted. Since 2022-23, DTE Assam discontinued the written entrance test. Admission is now based entirely on a merit list prepared from the candidate’s HSLC (Secondary/Class 10) board examination marks. If you have passed your Class 10 from SEBA or an equivalent board with Mathematics and Science, you are eligible to apply.

Assam PAT 2026 offers admission into 3-year diploma programmes in 21 engineering and technology disciplines. You can get admission at any of the 26 State Government Polytechnics spread across Assam. Two of these institutes are exclusively for female candidates. The total seat intake for 2026 is 4,385, which includes 25 seats reserved under the Other State Quota allotted by the Ministry of Education, Government of India.

Assam PAT 2026 Application Process

The Assam PAT 2026 application window was open from April 24 to May 10, 2026. Although this window is now closed, here is the complete process for reference if you are appearing next year or need to understand the steps for verification purposes.

How to Apply for Assam PAT

The entire application process is online at dte-assamadm.samarth.ac.in. Follow these steps:

• Step 1 — Register: Create a new account using your mobile number, email address, and date of birth. You will get an OTP on your registered mobile for verification.
• Step 2 — Fill Application Form: Log in and fill your personal details (name, address, category, parent name) and educational details (HSLC marks, board name, roll number).
• Step 3 — Upload Documents: Upload your recent passport-size photograph and signature in JPG/JPEG format within the size limits specified on the portal.
• Step 4 — Pay Application Fee: Pay the non-refundable fee of ₹300 online through SBI ePay. You can use Debit Card, Credit Card, Net Banking, or UPI (including PhonePe, Google Pay, and Paytm).
• Step 5 — Download Confirmation: After successful fee payment, download and save the application confirmation slip for future reference.

Application Form Correction

DTE Assam provided a short correction window from May 12 to May 13, 2026. During this time, candidates could edit certain details in their application form. This window is now closed.

Document Verification

After the application form was submitted, all applications went through online verification by Polytechnic Officers from May 15 to May 27, 2026. This step ensures that the uploaded documents and entered details are correct before the merit list is prepared.

The ₹300 application fee is non-refundable in all cases, including if your application is rejected during document verification.

Assam PAT 2026 Merit List

The Assam PAT 2026 merit list is expected to be released in July 2026 on the official admission portal. As of July 1, 2026, the merit list has not yet been published.

How to Check Assam PAT 2026 Merit List

Once released, you can check the merit list by following these steps:

• Go to dte-assamadm.samarth.ac.in.
• Click on the "Merit List" link on the homepage or the Admissions section.
• Log in with your Application Number and Password.
• Your rank and merit score will be displayed on screen.
• Download and save the merit list or your rank card for future reference during counselling.

What the Merit List Shows

The Assam PAT merit list typically includes your application number, name, HSLC marks, category, and your overall merit rank. Candidates who appear on the merit list are eligible to participate in the online counselling process for seat allotment.

Only candidates who appear in the Assam PAT 2026 merit list can participate in counselling. Candidates whose documents were rejected during verification will not appear in the merit list.

In 2025, the Assam PAT merit list was published in the last week of June 2025, ahead of counselling that began in early July. Since the 2026 document verification closed on May 27, 2026, the merit list is expected on a similar or slightly delayed timeline.

Reservation and Quota Policy

Top Government Polytechnics in Assam — Assam PAT 2026

There are 26 State Government Polytechnics in Assam participating in Assam PAT 2026. These institutes are spread across major districts and offer quality technical education under the supervision of DTE Assam. Below are some of the prominent government polytechnics:

Assam Engineering Institute in Guwahati is one of the oldest and most sought-after government polytechnics in Assam. Getting a seat there, especially in Civil or Computer Science, requires a strong merit rank. Candidates from urban centres like Guwahati and Jorhat tend to face more competition.

Two of the 26 government polytechnics are exclusively for female candidates. Female candidates should prioritise these institutes if they match their branch preference, as competition may be lower.

Admission Fees and Charges at the Institute

After getting a seat allotted and reporting to the polytechnic, you must pay the admission fees directly at the institute to complete your enrollment. These fees are separate from the ₹300 application fee paid during registration.

The above fees are indicative and may exclude hostel charges, mess dues, and other institute-specific fees. Confirm the exact fee structure with your allotted polytechnic at the time of reporting. Some government polytechnics also have hostel facilities for outstation students at additional cost.

TFW (Tuition Fee Waiver) candidates get a slight reduction in admission fees. This scheme is meant for economically weaker students who do not fall under any specific reserved category but need financial support.

Tips to Improve Your Chances of Admission in Assam PAT 2026

Since Assam PAT does not have a separate entrance test, your HSLC marks are the only factor that determines your rank. If you are a student currently in Class 10, here is how you can maximise your chances:

Focus on Mathematics and Science

Your merit rank depends on your HSLC marks. Specifically, Mathematics and Science carry special importance for tie-breaking. Score as high as possible in both subjects. For branches like Civil, Mechanical, and Electrical Engineering, strong marks in these two subjects matter most.

Check Your Eligibility Early

Before the application opens, check that you have the required minimum marks (40% in Math and Science average for General category). Also verify that your Permanent Resident Certificate (PRC) is updated and valid — getting a fresh PRC can take time.

Apply as Soon as the Portal Opens

Apply on the first day itself. Early applicants have more time to correct any mistakes during the form correction window. The application fee is low (₹300), so there is no reason to delay.
