Master of Technology in Welding Technology is a 2- year course. The course is pursued at the post-graduation level. The 2 years of MTech is divided into 4 semesters. Each semester lasts for 6 months. The course qualifies the candidate to be a professional welding engineer. The course has Welding Processes, Welding Metallurgy, Welding Codes and standards, Electrical aspects of Welding and Design of Weldments included in it.

The candidates pursuing M. Tech in Welding Technology are taught about the concept, design, and engineering of weldments and the implementation of welding processes. MTech Welding Technology: Admission Process

The admission process may vary from college to college. But, most of the colleges take admission to Welding Technology through MTech entrance examination.

The entrance examination conducted at all Indian levels for admission to MTech in Welding Technology is through the Graduate Aptitude Test of Engineering (GATE).

The candidate has to obtain a valid score to be able to apply for the counselling process.

How to prepare for the entrance exam?

There are a total number of 65 questions in the question paper.

The question paper has 3 sections. The 2 sections namely General Aptitude and Reasoning and Comprehension are compulsory sections. For the third section, the candidate has to choose any one subject.

  • The question paper comprises of 100 marks.
  • The General Aptitude section comprises 15 marks.
  • Reasoning and Comprehension comprise 25 marks.
  • The third section is 60 marks.

Three types of questions are asked in the GATE question paper

  • Type 1 – Multiple Choice Question (MCQ): In these types of questions any one of the 4 options is correct.
  • Type 2 – Numerical Answer Type (NAT): These questions have a real number or a value as their answer.
  • Type 3 – Multiple Select Question (MSQ): In such questions one or more than one options are correct.

The School of Mechanical Sciences at IIT Bhubaneswar has fully equipped labs. One gets ample time to prepare for competitive exams as an M.Tech Mechanical student over here. Ans. The placement is not good for M.Tech courses. Pursuing an M.Tech from SVNIT is a better option if one wishes to prepare for competitive exams simultaneously. Taking out time for preparation isn’t difficult if one is focused and disciplined. In 2022,18 students were successfully placed on campus from M.Tech Mechanical. The highest package was 9.42 LPA, the average package was 6.86 LPA, and the lowest package was 5 LPA. As for M.Tech Manufacturing, 21 students were successfully placed on campus. The highest package was 9.58 LPA, the average package was 6.29 LPA, and the lowest package was 4.80 LPA.  Some M.Tech specializations like Computer Science, Communications System, CAD/CAM and Structure receive a few core companies for placements. But that number is far from satisfactory. Moreover, very few people are selected for these jobs. Mechanical, Thermal System Design, SMFE and MSc. Moreover, they are more in number and are ready to grab any role whatsoever. MTech students on the other hand prefer core jobs that align with their academic profile and specific interests. So the placement opportunities offered to Masters students are less. Mostly, they have two options to choose from, academia or corporate.  Academics: Many institutes offer teaching positions to master students either as a college professor or for the role of an instructor at an Entrance Exam preparation institute, Master students of the Thermal branch are eligible for these roles.  Corporate: The Mechanical department students are often recruited by companies like GE, Mercedes, Bosch, Yazaki, Alstom, etc. do come for recruitment. The requirements vary each year. In reality, the chances of landing a job as an MTech student at NIT Surathkal depend on the market rather than the institute. NITK offers a great research culture that instills all the necessary skills. The placements are unpredictable though. Additionally, NIT Silchar is located in a remote location and you might find it difficult to procure your equipment for projects. MTech depends on the quality of the research and project you have completed and if you fail to accomplish it your MTech degree is invaluable.  Most companies visiting NIT Silchar prefer BTech students to MTech students. So getting a good job let alone a core job is very difficult here. The institute has no international ties so your future prospects may narrow down further. The interviewers asked him a number of questions like Describe the college you did your bachelor's from and the placement scenario there Is there any topic you are most comfortable with for the technical questions? What is compressible flow and compressible fluid? what is internal energy? PV^? what are its assumptions? Define isoentropic process dh = M Cp dt where can we apply this? Is it valid for gases only? Define Cp and Cv For solids why do we use Q=mcdt .what is C here? Why is solid C constant here? Basically, he was bombarded with a lot of technical questions although they helped him a lot. Interacting with them will make you realize that higher studies are a better option. Some who go for jobs anyway, come back to get a PhD sometime later. This is what the IISc effect is after all. As for the IISC placements for MTech Mechanical Engineering, students receive a minimum of 8 LPA packages with no limit on top packages varying from 15-25 LPA CTC. The major recruiters include companies like TATA motors, TATA steel, TCS research, Mahindra motors, Philips, Airbus, General Electric, Rolls Royce, TATA advanced system, PTC, L&T, and other design, manufacturing, and petroleum companies.
