Maratha Mandal's College of Pharmacy, Belgaum (established 1984) is a well-known pharmacy institution in North Karnataka, affiliated to Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS), Bangalore, and approved by the Pharmacy Council of India (PCI) and AICTE. The Diploma in Pharmacy (D.Pharm) is a 2-year full-time, on-campus diploma programme regulated by the Board of Examining Authority (BEA), Karnataka. The course covers pharmaceutics, pharmaceutical chemistry, pharmacognosy, pharmacology, hospital pharmacy, and drug store management, making it a strong foundation for careers as a registered pharmacist. With a seat intake of 60 students and a total fee of approximately Rs. 1,99,848 for the full programme, D.Pharm is one of the most affordable and direct entry routes into the pharmacy profession. The course is popular among students from Karnataka and neighbouring states due to its practical orientation, relatively short duration, and strong employment prospects in retail, hospital, and community pharmacy.

Admissions for the 2026-27 academic year are currently closed. KEA (Karnataka Examinations Authority) took over D.Pharm counselling from 2026-27 onwards, replacing the earlier manual process by BEA. For the 2027-28 session, KEA counselling is expected to begin around July 2027, following the KCET 2027 results (declared in May 2027). The college website (mmpharmacy.org) confirms admissions are open for 2026-27 with limited seats.

Maratha Mandal D.Pharm FAQs

Ques. Is D.Pharm at Maratha Mandal College of Pharmacy a full-time course, and do students need to attend college daily?

Ans. Yes, the D.Pharm programme at Maratha Mandal College of Pharmacy, Belgaum is a full-time, on-campus course. Students are required to attend regular theory classes, practical laboratory sessions, and hospital/clinical training as per the BEA Karnataka curriculum. Attendance is mandatory as per PCI norms, and students must meet the minimum attendance requirement (typically 75%) to be eligible to appear in the BEA examinations. There is no provision for distance or part-time study in this programme.

Ques. What is the difference between D.Pharm and B.Pharm, and which is better for a student from Karnataka?

Ans. D.Pharm is a 2-year diploma that qualifies you to register as a pharmacist and work in retail, hospital, or community pharmacy. B.Pharm is a 4-year degree that opens up additional career paths including research, manufacturing, regulatory affairs, and higher studies (M.Pharm, MBA Pharma, GPAT). If your goal is to start working quickly or open a medical store, D.Pharm is a faster and more affordable route. If you want broader career options or plan to pursue postgraduate studies, B.Pharm is the better choice. Maratha Mandal College of Pharmacy offers both programmes, so students can make an informed decision based on their goals.

Ques. After completing D.Pharm from this college, can I open my own medical store or pharmacy?

Ans. Yes. After completing D.Pharm and registering with the Karnataka State Pharmacy Council (KSPC), you are legally eligible to open and operate a retail pharmacy or medical store in Karnataka. You will need to obtain a drug licence from the State Drug Controller's office, which requires a registered pharmacist as a prerequisite. Many D.Pharm graduates from this college have gone on to run their own pharmacies in Belgaum and surrounding districts.

Ques. How does the new KEA counselling process for D.Pharm work, and is it different from the earlier BEA process?

Ans. From the 2026-27 academic year, the Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) has taken over D.Pharm counselling from the Board of Examining Authority (BEA). The earlier BEA process was manual and based on 10+2 marks, which often led to confusion and a large number of government quota seats going vacant. The new KEA process is fully computerised and online, similar to how B.Pharm and engineering admissions are handled. Students register on the KEA portal, verify documents at KEA centres, fill in college preferences, and receive seat allotments through multiple rounds. This makes the process more transparent and efficient. The KCET score is used as the basis for merit ranking for D.Pharm admissions under KEA.

Ques. Are hostel facilities available at Maratha Mandal College of Pharmacy, Belgaum, and what are the approximate charges?

Ans. Yes, hostel facilities are available at the college campus. The hostel is not mandatory, and students from Belgaum or nearby areas typically commute daily. Hostel fees are charged separately from the course fees and are not included in the Rs. 1,99,848 total course fee. For exact and current hostel fee details, students are advised to contact the college admissions office directly at mmpharmacy.org or visit the campus, as charges may vary by room type and academic year.

Ques. What are the career options after D.Pharm, and does this college provide any placement support?

Ans. After D.Pharm, graduates can work as registered pharmacists in hospitals, retail pharmacies, community health centres, pharmaceutical companies (in sales/marketing roles), and government health departments. They can also pursue B.Pharm through lateral entry (direct admission to 2nd year) to upgrade their qualification. Maratha Mandal College of Pharmacy does not have a dedicated placement cell for D.Pharm students comparable to engineering colleges, but the college's industry connections and the strong demand for pharmacists in the Belgaum region mean that most graduates find employment relatively quickly. Students interested in pharmaceutical company roles or hospital pharmacy positions are advised to build practical skills during their internship/training period.
