FAQs
Ques. Are NID Bhopal and NID Jorhat good for graphic design?
Ans. NID Bhopal and NID Jorhat offer strong fundamentals in visual communication and design thinking. NID Bhopal has slightly better exposure. Both are suitable for portfolio-focused students, but placements usually require extra individual effort.
Ques. Does being at a newer campus make the design course at NID Jorhat feel restrictive?
Ans. While the course at NID Jorhat does not restrict learning, it places a greater emphasis on students' self-direction for learning. Therefore, although there are many opportunities for studio exposure, peer learning, and school-sponsored projects, there are fewer opportunities for industry exposure and live collaborative projects.

FAQs
Ques. Can I get into NID Jorhat without prior design knowledge?
Ans. NID’s goal is to develop you as a designer once you are accepted into the program. Therefore, you do not need previous experience in design before entering. Most NID students come into the program with no formal design education, but they all demonstrate an aptitude for design through their performance on the NID entrance exam and interview.
Ques. Which is better, NIFT Bangalore or NID Jorhat?
Ans. NIFT Bangalore is generally better if you are focused on fashion design, apparel, textiles, and want stronger industry exposure, internships, and placements. It has a long-established campus, a better alumni network, and strong links with the fashion industry. NID Jorhat is a good option if you are interested in core design thinking, product design, and experimental learning, but it is a newer campus with limited placement data compared to NIFT Bangalore.
NID Jorhat Cut-Off
The table below covers information for NID Cut-Off for the B.Des. program:
| Courses | Round 1 (Cutoff marks) |
|---|---|
| B.Des Communication Design | 47.9 |
| B.Des Industrial Design | 47.9 |
FAQs
Ques. Is the cutoff for NID Jorhat lower because it is a newer campus?
Ans. The cutoff for NID Jorhat is usually slightly lower than older NID campuses, but it still depends heavily on NID DAT performance. A lower cutoff does not mean relaxed evaluation; portfolio, creativity, and interview performance still matter a lot.
Ques. Can a good DAT score compensate for an average board percentage at NID Jorhat?
Ans. Yes. NID Jorhat admissions are primarily driven by DAT scores and studio test performance. Board marks play a basic eligibility role, but they do not significantly affect the cutoff ranking once you clear the minimum criteria.
