TAG DMP FAQs
Ques. Do I need prior music knowledge or experience to join the Diploma in Music Production at TAG Mumbai?
Ans. While prior music knowledge is not strictly mandatory, having foundation skills in music is preferred for the Diploma in Music Production (DMP). Being a performing musician (vocalist, guitarist, keyboardist, etc.) is considered an added advantage as it helps in understanding music theory, composition, and arrangement concepts more intuitively. The course does cover music theory from the ground up, including Indian classical and Western music theory, so complete beginners can also manage - but students with some musical background tend to progress faster and get more out of the advanced modules.
Ques. What DAWs will I learn in the Diploma in Music Production at TAG Mumbai?
Ans. The DMP at TAG Mumbai covers two of the most widely used DAWs in professional music production: Logic Pro X and Ableton Live. Logic Pro X is the primary DAW used in the first half of the program for foundational music production, recording, arrangement, and mixing. Ableton Live is introduced in the later terms for electronic music production, live performance setups, and advanced sound design. Students also get hands-on experience with analog synthesis in TAG's dedicated synth lab, working with Native Instruments Massive, Serum, and Kontakt, among other virtual instruments.
Ques. What is the difference between the Diploma in Music Production (DMP) and the Advanced Diploma in Music Production (DAMP) at TAG?
Ans. The DMP is a 12-month program priced at INR 3,00,000 that covers the full spectrum of music production from fundamentals to intermediate-level mixing, mastering, film scoring, and music business. The DAMP (Advanced Diploma in Music Production) is a 15-month program priced at INR 4,00,000 that builds on the DMP curriculum with an additional term covering advanced specializations such as advanced synthesis, orchestral arrangement, Dolby Atmos music production, and a 1-month industry internship. If you want a comprehensive foundation in music production, the DMP is an excellent choice. If you want to go deeper into advanced production techniques and gain industry internship experience, the DAMP is the more complete program.
Ques. Does the Diploma in Music Production cover film scoring and composition for visual media?
Ans. Yes, the DMP at TAG Mumbai includes dedicated training in film and ad scoring. Students learn complex tempo mapping, orchestration, Indian instrument integration, and advanced MIDI session layouts for scoring to picture. The course also covers Surround 5.1 production workflows, which are relevant for film and OTT audio production. Students learn to blend orchestral and electronic elements to create cinematic music, making the DMP relevant not just for music producers but also for aspiring film composers and background score composers.
Ques. What placement support does TAG Mumbai provide after the Diploma in Music Production?
Ans. TAG Mumbai provides placement assistance and has a network of industry partners including recording studios, music labels, production houses, and OTT platforms. Alumni of the DMP have gone on to work as music producers, studio assistants, vocal editors, and song mixing engineers at various studios and production companies in Mumbai. However, placements are not guaranteed and depend significantly on the student's skill level, portfolio quality, and networking.
