IIHT Salem Admission 2024: Eligibility, Selection Criteria & Application Process
The Indian Institute of Handloom Technology (IIHT Salem) is a leading government institute that functions directly under the Development Commissioner for Handlooms, under the Ministry of Textiles (Govt. of India). At present it offers courses in B.Tech Handloom & Textile Technology, Post Graduate Diploma in Textile Processing, and a Diploma in Handloom and Textile Technology.
The admission is based on guidelines set by Anna University for all courses that are offered. Applications can be downloaded from the website. More details are as follows:
- B.Tech admissions are based on scores obtained in JEE Main of the corresponding year to which the applicant wishes to apply for.
- Along with scores in 10+2 in PCM for B.Tech admissions with 45% aggregate.
- B.Tech Lateral Entry admission is merit based. Depending upon Diploma held in the corresponding area of Textile and Handloom or a B.Sc degree.
- PG Diploma admissions are merit based depending upon scores obtained in either three year Diploma or B.Sc in a relevant area.
- Admissions are merit based followed by counselling at IIHT Salem. Students would also be offered a stipend while enrolled in PG Diploma course.
- Diploma admissions are based on scores obtained in class X with English as a core subject. Applications for Diploma can be downloaded from the website.

Students will have to register at the Tamil Nadi state government e-scholarship portal. Apart from the state scholarship, the college does not provide any other scholarship. Under the state scholarship schemes, there are 3 main types of scholarships, namely,
- BC, MBC scholarship: These are given to students from the backward communities and reservation quotas. A tuition fee waiver is generally provided in this kind of scholarship.

Eligibility of these course is ranked minimum cutt of of the Engineering program. There is no entrance exam. Reservation is for SC/ST and 7.5 reservation under state government of tamilnadhu.When tamilnadhu Engineering counselling was open one should join for this college should prefer this as the first priority. ADMISSION: Admission process was really simple while i was applying for the course. From the year 2019 JEE MAINS is mandatory for admission. • 45% minimum average of mathematics, physics, chemistry put together. • Improvement marks will not be considered. • Admission is based on the merit of rank obtained by the candidate in the corresponding year. SEATS AND RESERVATIONS: Seats available: 60 Tamil Nadu candidates - 50% of seats •OBC - 27% •SC - 15% •ST - 7.5% PROS: • Very low tuition fees. • College provides degree and diploma for only a single branch so there are only very few students studying on campus which makes the teaching learning process more transparent. • Campus is filled with trees basically neem trees which makes it a better place stay positive. CONS: • Tamil Language is used by most of the lectures.
