About NID M.Des
NID offers a two and a half year, full-time M.Des in 22 disciplines, with 404 seats across its Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar and Bengaluru campuses; 19 of them are listed here. NID is an Institute of National Importance under the NID Act 2014 and stands #2 in Collegedunia's Design ranking 2026. The full fee is INR 13.18 Lakhs, the same for every specialisation, and a refundable deposit of INR 10,000 comes on top. Every seat is filled through NID DAT: the Prelims shortlist you and the Mains decide the seat. The General closing marks in 2026 went from 45.25 for Universal Design to 76.3 for Design For Retail Experience. NID does not publish M.Des placement figures; across all its campuses the top offer in 2023 was INR 30 LPA.

NID M.Des Fees
The full fee is INR 13.18 Lakhs: INR 13.10 Lakhs of tuition fee and INR 7,800 of other fees. You pay INR 2,62,000 a semester for five semesters. NID sets one fee for every specialisation, and the INR 10,000 deposit comes back when you leave.

NID M.Des Eligibility
You need a bachelor's degree in any subject, and General candidates must be born on or after 1 Jul 1995. OBC-NCL, SC and ST candidates get three more years. If you are in your final year, you can apply if your exams end by 28 Jun 2027.

NID M.Des Admission Process
There are four steps: the form, the Prelims, the Mains and the seat offer. You apply online and pay for each discipline. The Prelims only shortlist you. Your Mains studio test and interview decide your place on the merit list.

Industrial design has the most seats, 100 in six courses, and Interdisciplinary the fewest, 38 in two. Most courses take 19 students; Ceramic & Glass Design and Toy and Game Design take 12. Each branch group has its own list in the specialisations block below.

NID M.Des Scholarships
SC students with a family income up to INR 8 Lakhs can get full tuition through the Top Class scheme. ST students with an income up to INR 6 Lakhs get full tuition and INR 3,000 a month. NID also helps a few students in need; it shares details after admission.

Write the DAT Prelims: A pen and paper test on 20 Dec 2026. It only decides who gets called to the Mains.
Take the DAT Mains: A studio test for your group of disciplines, then an interview for each discipline you picked.
Wait for the merit list: Your Mains marks alone decide your rank. The Prelims marks do not carry over.
Accept the seat: Pay the first semester fee in the offer window, or the seat goes to the next name on the list.
