Travancore medical college - KOLLAM (things to know before taking admission)

Likes

Good academic support by the faculty and non teaching staffs
Clincal subjects are taught at the hospital hy doctors and skilled professionals
A big campus with a lot of area for future expansions

Dislikes

A lot of construction going on at the moment causing a lot of dust with air and noise pollution to the students . It reduces the campus ambience
Number of college arranged programs are very less
Classrooms are very hot and lack proper air conditioning

The college probides the compulsary 1 year intershio for the students with a stilend but very low amount stipend The house surgeons are usually tired die to the hectic schedule and the stipend is of no use to them as they have more expenses to work even shifts of 24-48 hours

Very bore college life focussing only on studies

There is very efficient internship facilities available. The intern should work for a year in medical college & district hospital including peripheral health set ups . The intern is given a stipend for the same

Life of a student in Travancore medical college

Likes

The college is highly inclined towards academic excellence providing support and encouragement by the faculties who are knowledgeable in their fields , Especially the heads of the departments
The hostel facilities are up to mark and provide adequate atmosphere for academics and social interactions
The students are all bonded together and do not have any disparities

Dislikes

The college infrastructure is not upto the mark . There is only one building for the entirety of the departments.
The departments are always short staffed and are sometimes inadequate for dealing with a large number of studensr
The exposure we need as medical students is not met , which creates a feeling of inferiority when compared to other colleges

Internships Opportunities:

The internship is mandatory for mbbs students and they are required to complete 365 days of working in the hospital , for which they are ready to appear in the society aa a professional doctor . The stipend amount for an intern is rupees 12,500 for each month which is quite low for the work we are doing

The obvious reasons to select the travancore medical college kollam

Likes

The main thing i liked about my college is that it has one of the best faculty in the state and the lab facilities are top notch.
The other factor that i liked is the friendly teachers and seniors.
Also the infrastructure of the college is of the best in state and also the hostel are very near to the college so that we can have faster mode od transport

Dislikes

The hostel food is of the main disliked factor in the college.
The road which lead to the hostel have to be refurbished
The college ground for the sports have to be maintained during the rainy season.he

Internships Opportunities:

The college does not provide any scholarship while the hospital provides internship programme which is very much important for our profession. The college also provides a large number of assignment which help to develop the interaction skill of the students.

the sports activities are good here inthis college.
the academics is almost good in this college
The college ground is almost likely to be good

Dislikes

There are no programs or cultural events in this college.
the management is not supporting any activities like sports or events
the management is very bad and not good.

Internships Opportunities:

Internship oppurtunities in ghis college is pretty good as it is having a good parient flow to the hospital. we are having good picture of the internship . But tye stipend compared to the government colleges and hospitals are very less

Great for academics

Likes

The college atmosphere is very friendly. The faculties are mainly from government colleges and they are very well versed in their job.
There are state of the art labs and other equipment and mannequins and skill labs to make learning very engaging
There is enough restaurants and shops within the campus and the location is in the highway which makes transport easy

Dislikes

The academic pressure is a lot which makes it difficult to focus on other aspects of college life
There are not many programs compared to that in other government medical colleges
There is no special attention given to students who need attention

Internships Opportunities:

Since it is a medical degree there are no placements as such but we are trained to face the PG exams. We have a 1 year internship after the course. Most of the students opt for PG preparation after that

Academic related things here are excellent as the faculties are good all the facilities also ate excellent here
Hostel is so good. And they permit kettle, iron box etc also. And warden here is nice
Teachers give notes and pdfs so that our studies got easier. They also provides us important topics for the exams

Dislikes

Lecture hall does not have AC. So it was bit difficult for us
Hospital have not that much patients compared to govt hospitals
Cultural programs are less here as they more focus on academics

5th year is our internship year. And internship is provided in our college in our hospital. All hospital departments can be worked during internship time. I think we will get an amount of 10k per month. But we have to pay our regular fees in our internship year also

Good College Good Academic Go for it.

Likes

Good Infrastructure.Academics Is the best.Enough Patients.
Good Parking space.Excellent Food from Canteen.Vast campus and Hospital
Good services.Security and environment is safe.Large campus and Hospital along with hostel are situated in one compound which make students easier to travel.

Dislikes

It takes a lot of time to reach from one department to another as the area is vast.
Not much importance to arts and sports especially in first year
Phone is restricted during first year.They are strict in the first 2 years.Hostel is mandatory for all..even if your home is just nearby.

Internships Opportunities:

They provide placement opportunities to students who really topped the university exams. Interships are provided with a monthly salary of 10000.Since there are lot of patients..we can study som much from them.

Likes

The college professors are so friendly. They are so helpful in our studies.
Our college seniors are also very friendly.
Our college has put a lot into extracurricular activities as compared to other medical Colleges

Dislikes

The college infrastructure is not so good enough.
The roads to the college and hostel are not well built
When a heavy rainfall occurs the roads and hostels gets flooded

Internships Opportunities:

The internship opportunities in our college is so fine and good. As it is a medical college and there are a lot of patients coming to the hospital the interns plays a major role in taking care of them. But the stipend fixed for the interns were not good and it is not as said by the government. Day by day the price of the basic need things are going high. As the inflation rate is far ahead of our salary. And we want to make a change for the better future for the students.

Travancore Medicity has a good hospital infrastructure and college infrastructure too with 16years of experience in medical field
It has an average hostel facilities but the girls hostel facilities are more and provide excellent care to the girls hostel
The patient saturation and super speciality is an excellent highlight to the students and moreover the experience in treatment and facilities

Dislikes

The more facilities need to be done like well air conditioner in college premises
Hostel facilities of boys need to be increased and permission of two and four wheeler to be permitted
Moreover everything should be maintained better

Internships Opportunities:

Internship is mandatory in mbbs course and job offers are very much available for each and every one in different clinics , hospitals , dispensary and super speciality hospitals The job offer of mbbs are varying from place to place and the salary provided varies day by day according to patient saturation
