NSD Delhi Admission 2026 covers India’s most selective drama training. National School of Drama offers just 32 Diploma seats nationally. Phase 1 auditions are held across 18 cities before a final workshop in Delhi.

NSD also runs a 1-year Certificate programme at four regional centres. Each regional centre admits up to 20 students per year. The Certificate and Diploma use different selection processes.

  • 1-Year Certificate Programme (regional centres): Contact the respective NSD regional centre directly for current admission status.
  • Only 32 Diploma seats: This includes 3 reserved for foreign nationals. Around 22 seats are for Acting, 5 for Design, and 5 for Direction (from Semester 4 onwards).
  • Monthly stipend of INR 9,500: All admitted Diploma students receive this. It covers most hostel and living costs during training.
  • Surety bond of INR 1,08,000: Mandatory before joining. It is fully refundable on completing all 3 years. Early exit means repaying the entire stipend received.

NSD 3-Year Diploma Admission 2026

NSD Delhi admission 2026 for the Diploma programme is among the most competitive in India. Only 32 seats are available for the 3-year Diploma in Dramatic Arts. This includes seats for Indian candidates and 3 reserved for foreign nationals.

From Semester 4 onward, students choose a specialisation. Five seats are allotted for Design and five for Direction. The remaining seats continue in Acting.

NSD Scholarship and Stipend 2026

NSD Delhi provides a monthly stipend to all admitted students. This is not a separate scholarship but a built-in financial support structure. It makes the Diploma effectively self-funding for most students.

If candidates have no theater certificate, then how it get admission in NSD?

The admission procedure at NSD is quite unpredictable. If you have done 6 plays it will help but it doesn’t necessarily mean that you will get selected. 

Let’s say a person has 8 years of stage experience and has done over 20 plays. But there is no diversity. Also, he/she does not have much direction or backstage experience. It’s not likely that he/she will be selected.

However, if you have done 5 plays and have good technical knowledge of theater, then you can get admission easily.
