The National Geophysical Research Institute (NGRI) is a premier institution imparting quality education in Geophysical Science through a Ph.D. program in Earth Science. It was established in 2011 by the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR), Ministry of Science and Technology (GOI). The institute which is located in Hyderabad is one of a kind in the entire country.

National Geophysical Research Institute invites application twice a year, i.e. in August and December.
It is mandatory for candidates to appear and qualify UGC - NET/JRF prior to filling the application for form for the program.
NGRI doesn’t conduct any entrance test at the institute level.
Sponsored candidates must be able to produce sponsorship letter/ certificate along with a NOC from their respective employers.
Candidates from reserved categories are allowed relaxation of 5% marks in the minimum marks eligibility criteria.

National Geophysical Research Institute Ph.D. Admission 2024

The Institute offers a Ph.D. program in the discipline of Physical Science with specialization in Earth Science. The basic eligibility criteria for admission to this program is M.Sc./ M.Sc. Tech/ M. Tech degree with first class (60% marks) in any branch of physical sciences, viz. Geoscience/ Physics/ Chemistry/ Mathematics. Candidates are also required to qualify CSIR-UGC-NET for Junior Research Fellowship (JRF). Selection of candidates is done on the basis of their performance in a personal interview session conducted by AcSIR (CSIR-NGRI).

Candidates seeking admission to the Ph.D. program must apply and appear for CSIR-UGC (NET) for JRF prior to filling the online application form. Prospective applicants can submit their applications online and pay the prescribed application fee using credit/ debit card or net-banking. The application notification is published in leading newspapers across India.

Key Points:

Scholarship holders from various funding agencies including DST INSPIRE are eligible to apply for the Ph.D. program.

National Geophysical Research Institute Application Process 2024

National Geophysical Research Institute invites applications from eligible candidates through some of the leading newspapers in India, including the websites of NGIR and CSIR.

Aspiring candidates may visit the AcSIR official website and fill the online application form.
The application process also requires candidates to submit his/ her research objectives as well as the recommendation of the respective project leader directly to Coordinator AcSIR within the specified dates.
Applications received beyond the prescribed deadline will be thoroughly rejected.
Once applications have been received, NGRI shortlists candidates on the basis of their CSIR-NET score and other factors such as academic performance, work experience etc. and conducts a personal interview session based on which selections are done.

The admission to this college is done twice in a year i.e August and September . Other than that you need to qualify UGC NET/JRF exams. Those students who are sponsored need to show the valid sponsorship details along with the NOC to the college department. 5% relaxation is given to students belonging to the reserved category. You can apply for the course via online mode. A merit list will be prepared based on your UGC NET score and based on that you will be granted admission in the college.

Getting admission in this college is possible after clearing two phases after completing graduation in the relevant field from any renowned college.
