Admission to Government Engineering College, Thrissur (GEC TCR) is through the KEAM entrance exam. It is one of four government colleges that offer a Bachelor of Architecture (B.Arch) course and provides various engineering programs such as Civil, Mechanical, Chemical, Electrical and Electronics (EEE), Electronics and Communication (EC), Computer Science (CS), Production Engineering, and Architecture. The annual college fee is INR 14,000, with the tuition fee being INR 8,725 without a scholarship.
For students from families with an annual income of less than INR 100,000, the Government of Kerala offers a scholarship, reducing the tuition fee to INR 2,515, benefiting approximately 500 students. An additional fee of INR 500 is collected from B.Arch students for NASA registration, and INR 2,000 is contributed to the student-run SSA association for programs and workshops. The college has a highly active placement cell that ensures successful placements in companies like Wipro, MRF, and Oracle.
Notable alumni include Tessa Thomas, known as the missile woman of India. Students participate in practical training with registered architects in their seventh semester, and internships typically occur in the fourth year, lasting six months, often with groups of students joining firms together.
