Admission to government engineering colleges in Maharashtra is determined by the MHTCET, a common entrance exam based on the 12th-grade syllabus. Annually, around 200,000 students take this test, with the top 3,000-4,000 gaining entry into government institutions. The MHTCET results form the State Merit List, crucial for the centralized admission process where students select their colleges and branches.
