National Institute of Health and Family Welfare (NIHFW) located in New Delhi is an autonomous organization, under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India. Established in 1977 by the merger of two national institutions, it acts as a specialized institute for the advancement of health and family welfare programs in the nation.

It is accredited by UGC and it is affiliated to University of Delhi. It offers various teaching programs like M.D (Community Health Administration), Diploma in Health Administration and PG Diploma in Public Health Management. Additionally, it also offers a Ph.D. and other training programs. 

The admissions are made through the Faculty of Medical Sciences, University of Delhi as per the university procedures and regulations which include NEET PG for admission.

National Institute of Health and Family Welfare (NIHFW) offers the following teaching programs:

MD   Subjects: Community Health Administration  
Duration: 3 Years  
Eligibility: Candidate must have completed one year of compulsory rotating internship after passing the final MBBS examination and have full registration with the State Medical Council/Medical Council of India.      
PG Diploma   Subjects: Public Health Management  
Duration: 1 Years  
Eligibility: Candidate should have MBBS, BDS or B.Sc. in nursing/ health science/ natural sciences or B.A. in social sciences or equivalent qualification and be involved in Public Health activities.     
Diploma   Subjects: Health Administration  
Duration: 2 Years  
Eligibility: Candidate must have completed one year of compulsory rotating internship after passing the final MBBS examination and have full registration with the State Medical Council/Medical Council of India.      
Ph.D.  Subject: Medicine 
Duration: 3 Years 
Eligibility: Candidate must have graduate and post graduate degree with at least 60% marks.  Medical/Dental candidates must have MD/MS/MDS with at least 60%  marks in MBBS/BDS aggregate. 

NIHFW Admissions   

Due to the institute’s affiliation to the University of Delhi, the admissions are made through NEET PG. The application process is as follows: 

  • The applications have to be downloaded from the Faculty of Medical Sciences, Delhi University. 
  • DUMET application fee of INR 700 through demand draft must be attached with the application. This is non-refundable.
  • Applications have to be sent via speed post to the following address:

What is the admission process for MD at NIHFW Delhi?

Aspirants seeking admission to 3 year Full-time MD Program should meet the following criteria as specified by the institute.

  • Candidate must have completed satisfactorily one year of compulsory rotating internship after passing the final MBBS examination and must have full registration with the State Medical Council/Medical Council of India.
  • After fulfilling the requirements as stated above the candidate must have 5 years professional experience on or before 31 March of advertisement out of which two years experience should be in a department such as preventive and social medicine/community health / hospital administration /public health administration and allied disciplines of epidemiology, maternal and child health nutrition etc. in a medical college/recognised hospital/research institution in Delhi or in a teaching hospital outside Delhi and another 3 years experience at State/central level or in local bodies, armed forces medical services, public or voluntary sector organisations, railways, ESIC.
  • The candidate who fulfill the above eligibility conditions is allowed to appear in Common Written Screening Test to be held for post graduate degree/diploma courses by Delhi University.

When are the admission expected to begin for NIHFW Delhi?

The admisison date has not been announced yet. NIHFW Delhi Admission 2024 is yet to begin for the academic session 2024-25. NEET PG 2024 will now be held on June 23, 2024, for admission to the MD/ PG Diploma at NIHFW Delhi.
