According to Unnati Yadav, KMC Mangalore has good faculty and labs, great clinical exposure through its public–private partnership. She appreciates the strong MBBS syllabus, dedicated teachers, and outdoorsy campus life that includes cultural shows, clubs and sports. But she highlights some negatives including the terrible girls’ hostel after first year, constant commuting between scatted campuses, and extra transport expenses. Despite these problems, she feels the college offers quality medical education and strong opportunities for future doctors.

KMC Mangalore Admission FAQs

Ques. Does KMC Mangalore accept NRI or Management quota admissions for MBBS?

Ans. Yes, KMC Mangalore has NRI and Management quota seats for MBBS under MAHE (Manipal Academy of Higher Education). These seats have different fee and eligibility conditions, but cracking NEET is mandatory. Applicants should submit relevant NRI documents and go through the centralized counselling of MAHE. For those interested, there's only a limited number of spots available so book early.

Ques. Is there any minimum NEET percentile required to apply for MBBS at KMC Mangalore?

Ans. Yes, the candidate needs to achieve a minimum prescribed qualifying percentile by NMC every year. The cutoff percentile for a general category usually remains around 50th percentile, whereas the SC/ST/OBC categories have low percentile requirements. Meeting only the qualifying percentile does not therefore guarantee admission because seat allotment depends on NEET rank, counselling rounds, and seat availability through MCC or state quota.

Ques. Do MBBS students at KMC Mangalore receive internship placements within the Manipal group hospitals?

Ans. Yes, students usually undergo their compulsory rotating internship at KMC-affiliated hospitals, namely, KMC Hospital Mangalore and other clinical centers designated by MAHE. The institute arranges systematic training in all departments, with exposure to a wide range of medical cases. On rare occasions, internship transfers are made, which are subject to approval by the administration and depending on seat availability.

Ques. Does KMC Mangalore offer any scholarships for MBBS or PG medical students?

Ans. KMC Mangalore, under MAHE, offers merit-based and need-based scholarships for deserving students. This can include tuition fee waivers, merit-cum-means, and special scholarships for single topper NEET scorers in the top rank. PG students can also receive financial benefits based on NEET-PG rank and academic performances. Scholarship availability changes every year, and it is recommended that applicants check the updated scholarship brochure provided by MAHE.

Ques. What documents are required during MBBS reporting at KMC Mangalore after NEET counselling?

Ans. The candidates are supposed to carry the following original documents along with multiple photocopies of these during reporting: NEET scorecard, allotment letter, Class 10 & 12 mark sheets, transfer certificate, migration certificate, Aadhaar card, caste certificate (if applicable), passport-size photographs, and medical fitness certificate. AI-Generated Summary based on 33 Reviews

Admissions for the MBBS program at Kasturba Medical College are conducted through the NEET examination. Candidates must be at least 16 years old, and there is no upper age limit for NEET, making it highly competitive. The NEET exam is held annually in early May. Admission selection is based on NEET ranks and scores, with recent government quota cutoffs ranging from approximately 550 to 620 marks. Eligibility generally requires ranks between 50,000 to 72,000.

Students must apply through the MCC portal for the all-India quota or through Karnataka KEA state counselling. After securing a seat, students must complete enrollment procedures in Manipal. Reservations exist for SC, OBC, and ST categories, influencing the competition. Admission also involves uploading necessary documents online before reporting in person to complete offline procedures. The process from obtaining scorecards to enrolling can be lengthy. A rich alumni network and affiliations with various hospitals add to KMC's appeal for prospective students, particularly for those interested in research and international medical exam preparation like USMLE and PLAB.

Scoring above the stipulated cutoffs is crucial, and students with marks as low as 540 in earlier rounds have secured admission, highlighting the dynamic nature of cutoffs each year. Management quota admissions are not detailed.

I applied for other government colleges but with the marks I scored in neet this was the best college I could get. I particularly chose it over other private colleges that were nearer to my place because of the rich alumni circle and the opportunity it provides in terms of research and usmle and plab preparation I did apply to other government colleges for mbbs but my marks weren't enough to make it through The admission process is through all India councelling. eligibility is neet qualified and there are a cut off marks and u need to score above that around 50 students also come from KEA quota that is through Karnataka state councelling and last year when I took addmission the cut-off marks were 550/720 for all India students, this year I guess the cut off was 620 /720

i primarily chose and applied for KMC Mangalore because of the numerous opportunities they provide as well as their reputation. it was my first choice, the second being KMC Manipal. MAHE has a grand reputation in all their colleges and institutes, which reflects more than sufficiently in this college as well. NEET - UG exam is required to be eligible for this college, with the cutoff scores varying every year. there is also a KEA quota for Karnataka localites as well as a NRI quota. there are no SC/ST/OBC reservations, which in my opinion is great.

I applied to this college amongst others. From the beginning i always wanted to go to a MAHE college, be it manipal campus, or mangalore. Ive grown to love mangalore campus as the town is beautiful, the faculty is amazing and the experience we get is like no other. There are two exams which make you eligible for this college. NEET and MET. Since i had already given NEET i didnt need to give MET (Manipal Entrance Test). I got in based on my neet score and 12th grade marks. You dont require a very high score to get in. But its better to get a higher score so that you can get a seat of your choice in the first round of counselling itself.

I applied to several colleges like Delhi university, Toronto Metropolitan University, University of Toronto, and York Univeristy. I applied for the courses of nursing, biomedical science, biomedical engineering and neurosciences. I got admission offers from Toronto Metropolitan University for Biomedical science and waitlisted for nursing. I also got an offer from york university for biomedical science as well as an undecided major. I got offered an alternate humanities degree offer from Toronto university. The factor that made me choose this degree of physiotherapy was an internship I did at a clinic over the summer which made me realise how much I loved healthcare and patient interaction. I chose KMC Mangalore as it is a very renowned college and has about 5 hospitals and very good and heavy patient flow. This means we get more clinical experience to better our skills. Tests needed: NEET MET( Manipal Entrance Test) I gave MET and scored a good rank. I didn't give NEET.

Pratik ParikhLives in Bangalore

Here are some advantages of both, KMC Manipal and KMC Mangalore-

Advantages of KMC Mangalore-

  1. It is attached to three government hospitals- Lady Goschen (for OBG), Wenlock (for other specialties, except pediatrics), and RAPCC (for pediatrics). So you’ll get to see a variety of patients. You may work on 100+ cases during your OPD days. You’ll also get to see how differently government and private hospitals work.
  2. Mangalore has all the travel facilities- flight, bus, train, and even ship.
  3. You can access malls, good restaurants and other such luxuries in Mangalore.
  4. The Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations are worth waiting for.

Advantages of KMC Manipal-

  1. It has a state-of-the-art library.
  2. You’ll enjoy campus life, and meet students from different countries and streams (Engineering, Hotel Management, Visual Media, etc).
  3. KMC Manipal is a much bigger brand.

I really had an amazing time at KMC Mangalore. If you want more clinical exposure, stay at KMC Mangalore. The theory classes are at par in both. As a KMC student, if you are among the top 8 for the first 2 years, you’ll get the opportunity to attend a month-long externship in the Netherlands.
