Ans. Yes, you can get IEM Kolkata with a rank of 6k. In 2021, the closing cutoff for the IT branch was 2483-8457.  IEM Kolkata is an average college. The academics and facilities offered aren’t good for IT. Alumni of the institute who are well-established in the IT sector received the opportunities based on their talent and expertise. If you have other better options, you should choose them over IEM.  As per the recent placement highlights, IEM Kolkata average CTC was INR 5-6 LPA. While the highest CTC offered to the student of this branch was INR 42 LPA. Read more

Ans. A friend of mine did her BTech from IEM Kolkata and now she is working as a Cyber Security Analyst in a big firm. Here are a few things that she experienced in her duration at the college.  Unnecessary Rules: Students often complain about the unnecessary discipline enforced by the college to attend all of the lectures and seminars irrespective of their choice and usefulness. Faculty: In terms of faculty, there is a mix of average and good professors. But most of the good professors are moving to different colleges.  Placements: In the terms of placement, the data may show it as amazing but in reality, most of the students of IEM end up in mass recruiting jobs offered by any IT company. Only a few of the students end up in good companies.  If you are choosing IEM try to make the most of it. Other than college learning, try and take up some extra courses such as coding or hacking and security, it will help a lot. There are a handful of helpful faculties at IEM. Interacting and working with those professors will help a lot in going good places. Learn to utilize their time and learn new things. Learn something new and read as much as possible. If you are not happy with campus placements then you should look for off-campus placements as well.Read more

Ans. IEM Kolkatais known for its great placements. The Computer Science and Engineering department is one of the oldest departments in the Institute of Engineering and Management. Every year around 150 students in B.Tech (CSE) and 18 students in M.Tech (CSE) get admitted to the department. The college attracts very brilliant students because of the department reputation as well as the excellent placement records. IEM Kolkata B.Tech (C.S.E) provides around 95% Placements in 2020, with the highest salary packages 22 lacks, and lowest packages with 4 lakhs. For CSE, renowned companies such as TCS, Infosys, Wipro, Capgemini, IBM, Tech Mahindra, and so on come for picking up some talents. TCS, Wipro, and Infosys are the mass recruiters on the campus. The Placement Cell of the Institute of IEM, Kolkata has set a standard for its placement by providing a minimum one offer to each and every student who has taken admission in IEM, Kolkata. Placement starts from the month of August and usually continues throughout the year until May. In IEM, placement for CSE is almost 100% in 2019. The lowest package offered is around 3.6 LPA while the average package will be around 5-6 lakhs per annum. And the highest will be about 18 lakhs per annum. TCS comes for placement and offers around 8 LPA to 25-30 students. In 2017 the average package is around 3.85 lakhs, and the highest package is around 15.5 lakhs. Overall the IEM gives good average placement in CSE. IEM placed an average of 97% of students in the last three years, with good salary packages.Read more

Ans. IEM Kolkata is a reputed technical college in the region. But given a choice, you should take Civil/IT at Jadavpur University. JU ranks among the top engineering colleges in the country. It is well ahead of IEM, in terms of placement and opportunities.  Many core companies visit JU to recruit Civil Engineering students. The IT placement is excellent. Companies such as Microsoft, Google, etc. take part in Jadavpur University placements. During the 2022 placement drive, Facebook offered the highest CTC of INR 1.8 Crore per annum. Ques. Should I take CSE in KIIT or IEM, Kolkata?

Ans. I have a friend who scored a rank of 1536 in KIITEE and chose CSE in KIIT while another who got a rank of 4158 in WBJEE and went got IEM ECE. What I mean is that the institute does not matter but it’s your capability and skills that determine your success rate. I find judging colleges based on placements very silly.  So, if your ultimate goal is BTech only then take any one between IEM and KIIT depending on your financial background but if you are planning to pursue higher education, IEM will help you save money that can later be used for higher studies. Read more

One of my friends completed his B.tech from the Haldia Institute of technology so, it would be easy for me to answer your question.  Among all the colleges in West Bengal, Haldia Institute of Technology has the best campus life. Moreover, the hostel life is one such life that everyone should experience.  If you are good at extracurricular activities, then this college has a lot to provide. An annual tech fest is organized at campus.  Being a state-level engineering college, you shouldn’t expect a lot from it. You may not receive well-furnished labs and all sorts of comfort which includes average teachers.  Placement opportunities are also decent with job roles in reputed IT companies. Even if you are an average student in your studies, you will get a campus placement. You can experience a diverse college environment as you will see every type of student on the campus. At the end of the day, it’s on you, how you really want to be and which group really suits you.Read more

Ans. Haldia Institute of Technology will be of no help to you if you dream to be the best at coding and be proud of yourself as a CSE graduate in the future. When it comes to placement, it is good. But, if you consider your learning and look at the knowledge that you acquire in four years, you will not be satisfied. Teaching is an art and most of the teachers lack this art at HIT. And, the rest are average. One of my friends attended HIT. During his time, the algorithm which is one of the most important topics was taught by a well-qualified professor. But, due to a lack of the art of teaching, the students lost interest in the subject. Lab classes are under par. The lab assistant throws tantrums as if he is the dean of the college. Also, most of the teachers are alumni of the college. You won’t find the academic environment very encouraging.  No exposure. Even if it has been more than 15 years of the establishment of the college, it has failed to foresee Wipro, TCS, Infosys, CTS, and Tech Mahindra. This is quite unfair to the students who deserve more. The CSE department has talented students but the teachers, who shape these minds don’t put in the required effort. Despite all these, the students have made it to fortune 500 companies such as SAP Labs, Broadcom, Intel Security, Manhattan Associates. All the credits go to their hark-work and sheer determination. College gives you a degree, it is you who with your hard work and determination, will make a great CSE graduate.Read more

Ques. What is management quota fees in Haldia Institute Technology for CSE?

Ans. Information regarding management quota fees is not disclosed by the institute. However, according to some of my friends who acquired admissions in the institute through it, the fees of management quota are around 2 lacs- 2.5 lacs. The management quota fees are dependent on your negotiator, agent, consultant too. The above-mentioned amount does not include the hostel fees. It is at the time of college fees payment that the students are required to pay the hostel fees. You should consult with your seniors as they have a better knowledge regarding such matters. Although they would suggest that it would be a waste of money. If you are interested in software, only then you should take admission at Bangalore. A few esteemed software companies such as Wipro, Infosys, etc. visit for the recruitment process. The chemical branch at the institute is terrific. You should look into this course once as well. Your decision is concerned with building your career therefore make sure you opt for a course that would not make you have regrets later.Read more

The Department of Mechanical Engineering at Haldia Institute of Technology has established a nice reputation for itself over the past few years.  The professors and other members of the faculty for the mechanical engineering department are experienced.  The department also has good facilities for the laboratories.  The teaching methodologies are considered to be above average by a majority of students enrolled in mechanical engineering courses.  The only shortcoming of Mechanical Engineering at Haldia is on-campus placement drives. Very few core companies visit the campus to recruit students almost every year.  In case you want to be recruited by a reputed core company after graduation then you must maintain a good academic record from the first semester itself.  Following table is a brief description of the course: Categories Mechanical Engineering at Haldia Institute of Technology Course Fee 3.95 lakh Highest CTC 6 LPA Average CTC 3.2 LPA Recruiting Companies Cognizant, Haldia Petrochemicals, Bengal Energy Limited, Bengal Tools, etc. Some rules for the recruitment drives have been established according to which only the top students based on their CGPA score would be eligible to appear for the selection rounds of core companies. Ans. I have a few friends at the Haldia Institute of Technology and based on what I heard from them, I will suggest you to look for other options. Having a college campus in Kolkata will be advantageous for you. You can get IT in Techno India salt-lake main campus. If you don’t get Techno you can go for CSE in B.P. Poddar, RCC or St. Thomas, or any other college. Follow previous year trends of opening and closing ranks of the college and make a choice accordingly. Choosing the University of Engineering and Management (UEM), Kolkata can be risky because it is newly established. Even though it is under the banner of IEM, you can’t be certain about placements. Going by the recent placement highlights the average CTC offered at the institute is 4 LPA.Read more
