  • Dalhousie University offers a Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering for a duration of 5 years.
  • It is an on-campus, co-op program offered on a full-time basis.
  • This program gives students the theoretical foundation and practical experience to meet the needs of the Canadian industry.
  • All first-year students will complete the core engineering program before applying to their desired discipline in the second year and provides a well-balanced technical education.
  • This program prepares graduates to practice in design, research, development, fabrication, testing, processing, construction, operation, planning, sales, and management.
  • Years 1 and 2 follow the core Engineering program. A substantial part of the work in the first and second year is made up of core classes common to all 10 engineering disciplines.
  • All Dalhousie Engineering undergraduate programs are accredited by the Canadian Engineering Accreditation Board.
  • In addition to courses taught by the expert faculty, students will gain a wide range of hands-on experience, including:
    • 3-D technical drawings for computer-aided design
    • Machine shops and 3-D printing/rapid prototyping
    • Robotics and computer control
    • Refrigeration, heating, ventilation and air conditioning
    • Internal combustion engines, etc.
  • The Bachelor of Engineering co-operative education program integrates academic study with university-approved industrial experience. 
  • The co-op option gives students an opportunity to complement their studies with three paid work terms and work terms begin in the third year and typically last four months.
  • Job opportunities after BEng Mechanical Engineering are Mechanical Engineer, Automation Engineer, etc and the average salary goes up to 49,000 USD.

Eligibility & Entry Requirement

Academic Eligibility:

  • Students must have a GPA of 3.7 on a 4.0 scale.
  • Students must have completed their following Grade 12 subjects with a minimum overall average of 70%.
    • Academic English 12
    • Pre-calculus Math 12
    • Academic Chemistry 12
    • Academic Physics 12
  • Students also have to complete one additional academic subject in Grade 12.

Indian Student Eligibility:

Indian students are eligible to apply if they have any one of the following certificates:

  • All-India Senior School Certificate (CBSE)
  • Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC)
  • Indian School Certificate (CISCE)
  • Or, another Senior Secondary School Certificate awarded after standard XII

Along with the minimum eligibility requirements, international students hailing from non-English speaking countries need to prove English proficiency through IELTS/TOEFL/any equivalent test.

Required Document List

Following are the required document:

  • Online application form and fees: Students have to fill the online form and submit the application fees. 
  • Resume: Outline of academic achievements and/or awards, publications, relevant work, and/or volunteer experience.
  • Two Professional References: Referees (Teachers, guidance counselors, or Professors) should comment on academics and that references should submit along with the application system.
  • Transcripts: Students have to submit transcripts from all universities/colleges attended, World Education Services Assessments, and English Language Proficiency test scores 
  • Confirmation of Employment Form:  Students must be emailed as an attachment by applicant or referee. 
  • Proof of name change: Required only if name discrepancies exist between transcripts/assessments/test scores and other application documents.  Examples of proof: Marriage/divorce certificates, 2 copies of government-issued ID that include a previous and current name and date of birth.
  • ELP Scores: Students have to submit their English language proficiency scores like IELTS, TOEFL, or other test scores.
