Brandon University offers 50+ scholarships, of which 8+ are accessible to Indian applicants for Fall 2027 entry. Awards range from CAD 800 (INR 55,120) entrance grants to CAD 40,000 (INR 27.56 Lakhs) doctoral funding through external Canadian programs.

  • Standard first-year international tuition (BA, 30 credit hours): CAD 16,855.35 (INR 11.61 Lakhs).
  • With a top-tier entrance scholarship applied: net tuition drops to about CAD 14,055 (INR 9.68 Lakhs).
  • Best-case stack (entrance award + bursary + program grant): up to CAD 5,000 (INR 3.45 Lakhs) trimmed from Year 1.
  • Next scholarship cutoff: tentative March 1, 2027 (annual cycle for entrance award consideration).

Currency Note: All INR conversions use the live rate of 1 CAD = INR 68.90 as of September 2026. Amounts above INR 1 Lakh are shown in Lakhs; smaller sums appear as raw INR figures for clarity.

Brandon University Scholarships for UG Students

Undergraduate awards at Brandon University split into two tracks: automatic-consideration entrance scholarships and applied-for entrance scholarships. Indian applicants qualify for both when they submit the AcademicWorks profile alongside the admission form.

ScholarshipAmount (CAD / INR)EligibilityDeadline (2027 cycle)Application
Board of Governors (BoG) Entrance Scholarship: IB Diploma CAD 1,100 to CAD 2,800 (INR 75,790 to INR 1.93 Lakhs) IB Diploma aggregate 26 or higher; sliding scale up to 43-44 pts. Tentative August 31, 2027 (IB results submission) Automatic on transcript submission
BoG Entrance Scholarship: IB Individual Course Awards CAD 100 to CAD 250 per course (INR 6,890 to INR 17,225) Score of 5 or higher on HL or SL IB course. Tentative August 31, 2027 Automatic on transcript submission
Automatic-Consideration Entrance Scholarships CAD 800 to CAD 2,000 (INR 55,120 to INR 1.38 Lakhs) Grade 11 or 12 average of 85% or higher; direct-entry students. Tentative March 1, 2027 Automatic when admission and transcripts are on file
Applied-For Entrance Scholarships Variable, typically CAD 500 to CAD 2,500 (INR 34,450 to INR 1.72 Lakhs) Grade 11 or 12 average of 85%; extra criteria (essay, program, financial need) vary by award. Tentative March 15, 2027 Separate AcademicWorks application required
Michael Parrott Math and Physics Scholarship CAD 1,360 (INR 93,704) Incoming Math or Physics majors with strong grade 12 results. Tentative March 1, 2027 Automatic for eligible declared majors
Entrance Scholarship-Bursaries Variable, typically CAD 1,000 to CAD 3,000 (INR 68,900 to INR 2.07 Lakhs) Academic merit combined with a financial need statement. Tentative June 1, 2027 Separate AcademicWorks application

Every incoming Indian student who wants entrance-award consideration must file the AcademicWorks profile at brandonu.academicworks.ca in addition to the admission form. Missing the profile means the file is not reviewed, even when grades clear the cut-off.

Advanced Placement (AP) exam holders receive parallel treatment. Scores of 4 or 5 on qualifying subjects trigger CAD 100 to CAD 250 (INR 6,890 to INR 17,225) course awards under the same BoG umbrella. Renewal for any first-year award requires 12 credit hours of registration in both Fall and Winter terms.

Brandon University Scholarships for PG / Master’s Students

Master’s-level awards use the same two-track logic: automatic-consideration and applied-for. Every Indian graduate applicant needs a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.00 (roughly 75% or a First Class average) to enter either pool.

ScholarshipAmount (CAD / INR)EligibilityDeadline (2027 cycle)Application
Automatic-Consideration Graduate Scholarships Variable, typically CAD 1,000 to CAD 5,000 (INR 68,900 to INR 3.45 Lakhs) Entering GPA of 3.00 in a Brandon master’s program; registration confirmed. Tentative June 1, 2027 (course registration cut-off) Automatic; no application form
Applied-For Graduate Scholarships Variable, typically CAD 1,500 to CAD 6,000 (INR 1.03 Lakhs to INR 4.13 Lakhs) Same 3.00 GPA base; departmental awards may add research or thesis criteria. Tentative June 1, 2027 Separate AcademicWorks application
Program-Specific Awards (Rural Development, Music, Psychiatric Nursing) Variable, typically CAD 500 to CAD 3,500 (INR 34,450 to INR 2.41 Lakhs) Enrolled in the named master’s program; some carry thesis-topic conditions. Tentative June 1, 2027 Departmental nomination or AcademicWorks
Graduate Scholarship-Bursaries Variable, typically CAD 1,000 to CAD 4,000 (INR 68,900 to INR 2.76 Lakhs) GPA of 3.00 plus documented financial need. Tentative June 1, 2027 Separate AcademicWorks application with need statement
Graduating Scholarships and Awards Variable, typically CAD 500 to CAD 2,500 (INR 34,450 to INR 1.72 Lakhs) Final-year master’s students with strong cumulative record. Tentative June 1, 2027 Nomination by department

Brandon University runs six master’s programs open to Indian applicants: MA in Rural Development, Master of Education, Master of Psychiatric Nursing, Master of Music, MSc in Environmental and Life Sciences, plus the Graduate Diploma in Rural Development. Award pools are program-scoped, so a Rural Development student cannot claim a Nursing-only endowment.

Reddit Insight: Indian applicants to small Manitoba universities note that AcademicWorks profiles are program-locked. Switching your applied major after submission wipes eligibility for major-tied awards, so lock the program choice before the June 1 window closes.

India-Specific Scholarships at Brandon University

Brandon University does not publish a scholarship reserved for Indian nationals alone. Indian applicants are, however, routed into every open international-eligible pool listed in the UG and PG tables above.

Three pathways matter most for an Indian file:

  • BoG Entrance Scholarship route: Indian CBSE, ISC, and state-board grade 12 marks are converted to a Brandon percentile. Averages of 85% or higher clear the automatic-consideration door; 90% or higher usually places a file in the top BoG tier of CAD 2,000 (INR 1.38 Lakhs).
  • IB and A-Level route: Students from Indian IB or Cambridge schools land the richer BoG IB scale, which peaks at CAD 2,800 (INR 1.93 Lakhs). Individual course awards stack on top.
  • Bursary route: Entrance Scholarship-Bursaries pair merit with documented household income. This is the cleanest single lever for Indian families whose annual income sits under INR 12 Lakhs.

The AcademicWorks profile is the gatekeeper. Every merit and need award routes through that portal, and the office does not manually pull records for applicants who skip it.

Reddit Insight: Indian applicants report that stacking a BoG entrance award with an Entrance Scholarship-Bursary is the single highest-yield lever at Brandon, often trimming CAD 4,000 to CAD 5,000 (INR 2.76 Lakhs to INR 3.45 Lakhs) off first-year costs when the AcademicWorks file is complete.

Brandon University PhD Scholarships

Brandon University does not offer PhD programs as of the 2026-27 catalog. Graduate study caps at the master’s level across all six departments.

Indian students who want doctoral funding while researching Brandon-adjacent topics have two realistic routes. First, complete a Brandon master’s, then apply to a Canadian PhD host such as the University of Manitoba, University of Saskatchewan, or University of Alberta. Second, target Canadian federal doctoral awards that follow the student across host institutions.

Doctoral Award (post-Brandon route)Amount (CAD / INR)LevelDeadline (2027 cycle)
Canada Graduate Research Scholarship - Doctoral (CGRS-D) CAD 40,000 per year for 3 years (INR 27.56 Lakhs per year) PhD at any eligible Canadian institution Tentative October 2027 (SSHRC / NSERC / CIHR competition)
Provincial Graduate Fellowships (Manitoba, Saskatchewan) Typically CAD 14,000 to CAD 18,000 per year (INR 9.65 Lakhs to INR 12.40 Lakhs) PhD at a provincial host university Varies; typically January to March 2027

Applying for CGRS-D as an Indian citizen is now easier than under the retired Vanier route. Applicants of any citizenship qualify, provided registration in a Canadian PhD program is confirmed by Fall of the application year.

External Government Scholarships for Brandon University Applicants

Indian applicants heading to Brandon have three practical external funding lanes: one Canadian federal, one bilateral, and two India-side (from the Ministry of Social Justice and the Ministry of Tribal Affairs).

ScholarshipAmount (CAD or INR)Eligibility for Indian ApplicantsDeadline (2027 cycle)
Canada Graduate Research Scholarship - Doctoral (CGRS-D) CAD 40,000 per year for 3 years (INR 27.56 Lakhs per year) Any citizenship; must hold registration in a Canadian PhD program by Fall of application year. Tentative October 2027
Study in Canada Scholarships (Global Affairs Canada) CAD 10,200 to CAD 12,700 (INR 7.02 Lakhs to INR 8.75 Lakhs) short-term Indian students on short-term exchange or research visits of 4 to 6 months. Tentative March 2027 (nominated by Brandon)
National Overseas Scholarship (Ministry of Social Justice, India) Full tuition + INR 15,400 per month living stipend + one-time contingency Indian SC, denotified nomadic tribes, and landless labour categories; family income under INR 8 Lakhs per year. Tentative March 31, 2027
National Overseas Scholarship (Ministry of Tribal Affairs, India) Full tuition + USD 15,400 annual maintenance (INR 12.90 Lakhs approx.) Indian ST candidates; family income under INR 6 Lakhs per year; master’s or PhD abroad only. Tentative April 15, 2027

The two India-side National Overseas Scholarships are the most under-used lever for Manitoba-bound applicants from reserved categories. Brandon University’s tuition sits at the lower end of Canadian public rates, which stretches the sanctioned amount further than at Toronto or Vancouver hosts.

The Study in Canada Scholarship is a short-term add-on rather than a full-degree grant. It suits Indian PhD scholars in South Asia doing a research stint at Brandon under a faculty supervisor. Nomination comes from Brandon’s International office, not a direct student application.

Brandon University Scholarships: Frequently Asked Questions

Ques. What is the maximum scholarship an Indian student can stack at Brandon University in Year 1?

Ans. The realistic ceiling for an Indian undergraduate in Year 1 is roughly CAD 5,000 (INR 3.45 Lakhs). That stack combines a top-tier BoG Entrance Scholarship of CAD 2,000 (INR 1.38 Lakhs), an IB course award or Applied-For Entrance award of about CAD 1,500 (INR 1.03 Lakhs), and an Entrance Scholarship-Bursary of about CAD 1,500 (INR 1.03 Lakhs). Master’s stacks land in a similar band, with program-specific graduate awards replacing the BoG line.

Ques. When should Indian applicants apply for Brandon University scholarships?

Ans. File the AcademicWorks scholarship profile at the same time as the admission application, and never later than tentative March 1, 2027 for automatic entrance awards or tentative March 15, 2027 for applied-for entrance awards. Graduate applicants have a tentative June 1, 2027 cutoff. Decisions typically release between April and July of the same year.

Ques. How does the AcademicWorks scholarship application work at Brandon University?

Ans. AcademicWorks is a separate portal at brandonu.academicworks.ca. Create a profile, list your program, answer the general questions once, and the system auto-matches you to every open award. Applied-For scholarships add short essays or reference asks on top of the general profile. The admission form and the AcademicWorks profile are two systems; skipping either removes you from award consideration.

Ques. What GPA or percentage does an Indian student need for Brandon University entrance awards?

Ans. Undergraduate automatic-consideration awards need a grade 11 or 12 average of 85% (roughly CBSE 85 or ISC 82). The higher CAD 2,000 (INR 1.38 Lakhs) tier typically needs 90% or higher. IB students need aggregate 26 or higher for the base BoG award, scaling up to 43-44 pts for the CAD 2,800 (INR 1.93 Lakhs) top tier. Graduate awards need cumulative GPA of 3.00, roughly a 75% average in Indian scoring.

Ques. Does the Brandon University IB scholarship cover living costs in Brandon, Manitoba?

Ans. Not fully. The top BoG IB award of CAD 2,800 (INR 1.93 Lakhs) is designed as a tuition offset, not a living-cost grant. First-year on-campus living in Brandon (residence with meal plan) runs about CAD 11,000 to CAD 13,000 (INR 7.58 Lakhs to INR 8.96 Lakhs) per academic year. The scholarship trims roughly 20% off tuition; the balance sits with the family or a bursary top-up.

Ques. Are there fully funded PhD scholarships at Brandon University for Indian students?

Ans. No. Brandon University does not offer PhD programs. Indian scholars targeting doctoral funding in Canada should apply for the Canada Graduate Research Scholarship - Doctoral (CGRS-D) worth CAD 40,000 per year (INR 27.56 Lakhs per year) through a PhD-granting host, or route through the India-side National Overseas Scholarships for reserved-category candidates.

Scholarship

  • Scholarships are merit-based. There are some fixed amounts available to students studying specific courses or in specific facilities. Scholarships range anywhere from CAD 500 to CAD CAD25,000 per semester, which would, on the high end, typically cover all expenses for a student in that semester, as the amount is “paid” to the student but needs to ensure that it is used towards education.

  • I did not have to look for accommodation, as I had family living in the city. It seems to be fairly common that everyone is able to secure accommodation, as there are various international students who are open to roommates to reduce cost of living.
  • It is a hard find without any connections but with social media and the internet, there are many sources to secure a spot.

I really liked the town it's in and when I visited the university before I had started, it was very welcoming and nice. The school is a very good size for me and I felt I would be able to interact with professors well if I needed it.
