Colleges Where I Was Accepted
Reason for choosing my college
- The University of Ottawa stood out to me as the ideal choice for graduate studies due to its strong academic reputation and practical advantage. Ranked highly in the QS rankings, it reflects a commitment to excellence and quality education.
- Moreover, being located in Ottawa, the capital city of Canada, the university offers an academic and cultural enriching experience. Ottawa is one of the safest cities in Canada. Queen was my other preference, but due to its course length, I decided to go with Ottawa.
Colleges Where I Was Rejected
Reason for Rejection
Due to the high competition and thesis course, I could not get an offer letter. To get into a thesis course a person must have published at least two research papers or maybe more to get a better impression.

Tips to enhance your application
Some of the key points I think are how well SOP is structured, extracurricular activities should be included, and the purpose of your study should be mentioned clearly.
Admission Experience
I choose the University of Ottawa for its strong academic reputation, high QS rankings, flexible per-credit fee structure and location of campus. For career opportunities, it depends on person to person and how much hard work they can do. It gives me well-rounded experience.
Class Schedule
The number of classes depends on the number of courses you took, a maximum of two classes per course is scheduled in one week, and it varies from 1.5 hr to 3 hr in length. Class timings can vary from 8:00 am to 10:00 pm. Generally, in a class, there are 20-30 students, and the number of Indians can vary from 5-15. A student has lots of time to complete their assignment and to study.
Faculty
Faculty to student ratio can vary from course to course but, on average, it is 1:25. All the faculties are good and student feedbacks are taken at the end of the semester so, if a faculty member is not able to teach well then the university can remove them. Yes, some help you to get a part-time or full-time job.
Campus Life
3 campuses, which are located close to the main campus. My university has a very good library and lots of study rooms. There are many clubs which you can join. And all the possible facilities you want are there.
Part Time Jobs
You can do part-time in any restaurant retail store or any other store. It is easy to get part-time, but you should avoid working in fast-food places and restaurants. You will get minimum wage and sometimes 1-2$ extra per hour.
Yes, for masters students TA roles are available and anyone can get them. The amount you get depends on the role and it varies from $33/hr to $46/hr and the hours can vary from 30-130 hours. The max hours are 20 per week.
Placement
People who have done co-ops have a higher chance of getting a job. The average salary is around 70K per annum. Career fairs or through LinkedIn, you can apply. The lowest salary can be nearly 60k per annum.
Accommodation
There are many Facebook groups and WhatsApp groups where you can find the rental unit but it is usually suggested to come before and search by yourself to avoid scams which are very common here and do not pay any amount in advance unless and until you see the unit.
