Course Curriculum

8

  • Course curriculum relevancy is 80-90%. I have 2 Internship experience back in India. Most of the courses in this master's programme will be requiring a term project or research project, including report and ppt submissions for fulfilment while studying the course.
  • 90% of the course will be having a 3-hour class a week for 13 weeks, which is the term duration. Some courses have two 1.5 hour classes a week. Timings vary drastically. 0830-1130, 1430-1730, 1900-2200. 85% in person, 15% online. Average number of students depends upon the course. 15 per class to 60 per class.

Admission Experience

  • Its qs ranking is 186 globally, the admission requirements were aligned with my portfolio, and it is a public university lying in the centre of the Canadian capital. Admission process can be found in the website because it varies. My passion towards Civil Engineering (for which I already have Diploma and bachelor's degrees back in India) made me choose this programme.
  • IELTS - 6.5, UG Score - 3.6/4, 3 LoRs from UG Professors, Statement of Purpose, CV

Faculty

8

  • Average 1:30. Majority of the faculty are highly qualified. 80% of the faculty are student-friendly, liberal and empathetic. 20% are very strict and particular. 100% of them are well versed and approachable.
  • Mamadou fall, the Dean of the Department of Civil Engineering and also the professor for the Geotechnical Hazards course, was the sweetest, most empathetic, knowledgeable, nice, kind, considerate, professional and chill. He wiped out the stereotype of being a black person with all his personality traits.
  • Other professors also impacted me in many ways. Well, there is a huge difference between Indian vs Western education systems, honestly.

Campus Life

8

  • Infrastructure is very stunning with excellent amenities. The campus has almost everything, including facilities, sports, a gym, and activities.

Part Time Jobs

  • $16.5 per hour is the average income of the part-time employees. Applying would be through referrals or workday websites.
  • Other unauthorised jobs would be through direct resume submission. Current cap for students is 24 hours per week. It depends upon the requirement from the department. It is moderate. 1 out of 50 students would be a TA or in other positions.

Placement

6

  • 20% of graduates are securing full-time field jobs relevant to the programme. It is due to federal project cuts, financial deficits, sanctions, recession, poor market, high competition, demand for local experience, broken immigration, etc.
  • Average salary would be $28 per hour or $55000 to $70000 per annum. Some colleges and universities have placement cells I believe, so mostly it would be through LinkedIn, Indeed, Career fairs, Career websites, Referrals, Co-op and Internship companies that recruit directly as full-time employees.

Accommodation

Off Campus
8

  • WhatsApp groups, mutuals, and connections from Indian IDP consultancy. Average rent for shared accommodation would be $500 per month. Private accommodation would be $800.

Exams

  • IELTS, SoP, 3 LORs from UG Professors, CV, additional documents of activities, achievements

Fees

  • 1 CAD - Canadian Dollar ($) = INR 63 ish. Per credit it is around $1500. Each course carries 3 credits. So it would be around $4500 per course. Total would be $45,000 only for the course fee. Most programmes require 10 courses to finish the programme; 90% of the courses have options to choose, like electives, and 10% of the courses are mandatory. UHIP (University Health Insurance Plan), which is mandatory for every year as a student, would be around $800 per year.
  • Other fees include gym, sports, association, and student pass (U-Pass) for public transport, which are included but still can be excluded later from the office. These fees would be up to $400.
  • Considering the miscellaneous expenses associated only with the university programme, the total can be rounded off to $50,000 which would be around INR3.3M. Additionally, the federal government passed an order for a $20,300 GIC (Guaranteed Investment Certificate) amount, which should be paid to the federal government before lodging the visa while paying the tuition fee back in India. This amount will be deposited back to the student's account for 1 year as a security amount for student expenses in equal amounts monthly. Technically, the GIC amount comes back to our account.
