Required Exams for Admission

IELTS (7)

Course Curriculum

10

  •  Difficulty level of the course was bit high as the curriculum was intense with so much detailed concepts that took time to learn and understand. It was more of practical assignments rather than theoretical exams etc.
  • Positive about the courses is that I got to learn a lot and explore a lot and negative is that it took time to understand and get the assignments done but got better in time
  • Depends on the course and the average is around 25 students per course
  • There were 50% of Indian students in almost all the courses

Admission Experience

  • Applied to:
  1. University of Ottawa - confirmed admission
  2. Concordia university - confirmed admission
  3. McMaster university - rejected
  4. McGill university - rejected
  • I got rejected in these two universities as my SOP wasn’t good enough for these prestigious institutions. Also, my personal projects were not good enough maybe. And also my academic scores are good but may not be sufficient enough for these universities
  • I chose this as it’s the best university according to the rankings position and also the province it is in which is feasible for job opportunities and also the settlement with permanent residency. I applied to the university and got accepted and then asked to submit the documents and then visa process to travel.
  • Overall experience was very challenging but still very much enjoyable as I did everything on my own by researching about the courses, visa process etc. It was the best experience and I am proud of myself for doing this on my own.
  • Admission process took 2-3 months and I got admitted for Jan intake and I wanted to start my course as soon as I get into and so I started it in Jan intake. Once we apply to the university, we wait till we get our decision and once we get it in 2 months and then we have to decide the courses or if it’s research based, we have to select the professor and be in contact with them to know the other processes.
  • I chose internship based course and so I just chose the courses for the first semester once I got admitted. These all happened in the span of 3 months.

Class Schedule

10

  • Class depends on the courses that we choose.
  • I had only 3 classes in a week which is like only two days a week I go and attend classes which are of 1-3 hrs. So had lots of time to study and do part time too.

Faculty

10

  • The faculty-to-student ratio is typically small, allowing personalized attention and fostering better interaction.
  • Faculty employ diverse methodologies, blending theory with practical applications, ensuring students are job-ready.
  • Some actively help with job placements via networks.
  • Admired faculty stand out for industry expertise, innovative teaching, and genuine mentorship that inspires confidence.

Campus Life

10

  • It’s just in Ottawa and that’s the only campus but I got to go to Carleton university for few of my courses as it was a joint university with my university.
  • We had so many sports and clubs to participate and it was a wholesome experience as there are other students from different countries across the world which gave a massive exposure and good friends

Part Time Jobs

  • TA is good to find in university websites and it pays well around $40-45 CAD per hour with reasonable hours given to you.
  • This must be applied using your resume and contact the professors to talk to them about it.
  • You will have an interview for this once your profile is picked up. 20 hrs per week is give. And if you are good enough you might be able to do two TAs as well for different courses
  • Indians do TA as well as working in restaurants or any food chains or supermarket. It’s also advisable to have a good network to get to know the opportunities for the part time.
  • You can give out your resume in mall or any shopping complex that has vacancies. You could also search for part times by applying to the security license which gives us an opportunity to work as a security guards for the complexes or housing communities

Placement

8

  • It was but hard in the beginning and it needs lot of patience to get the initial job.
  • We can apply for it in LinkedIn, company career portals, indeed.
  • There are so many companies that hires new graduates. I got into Elastic company as a new graduate software engineer.
  • You will also have an opportunity from the company that you did internship depending on that company’s requirements

Accommodation

Off Campus
10

  • I chose an accommodation close to the university with the train facility that just had a stop inside the university itself.
  • Monthly rent for each person in my flat was around $350 CAD and I found the accommodation by checking in Facebook marketplace and also by talking to the seniors in LinkedIn who already attended this university and then contacted the apartment people and initiated the process and then posted the ad for the roommates in Facebook marketplace to gather roommates

Exams

  • IELTS is required with a decent score of 7 in all the sections.
  • Previous bachelor’s mark sheets are necessary along with three of the letters of recommendations from your professors from bachelors or other courses that you have attended. And SOP is also required with detailed explanation of what motivated you to this course and what the goal, personal projects, academic achievements, extracurricular activities etc.
  • Resume is required in which you put your personal projects also that aligns with what you have written in your SOP.

Fees

  • Fees are charged per semester and it was around $8000-$9000 CAD in 2020 & 2021.
  • I chose to stay on my own by renting an apartment and sharing it with 2 others.
  • The rent for an individual was $350 CAD and $80 for the utilities and WiFi and the food and other expenses were around $400.
  • It’s good to do part time and take care of our expenses and I did Teaching Assistant part time which helped me to manage my expenses and I got this job in my university itself

Scholarship

  • Yes, I got 2 grants and the eligibility depends on your academic score in your bachelors and also the current performances and GPA.
  • On an average, 60% of the students received tone of the grants.
  • I also got an internship based on my performance in one of the courses and I got recommended by my professor to work under other professor and I was provided with grants of $10000 CAD for 4 months
