What Students Say?
Likes
- I chose Norquest because the mental health recovery practitioner course was only offered by them. They also had another exciting course, addictions recovery practitioner, unfortunately, I couldn’t get into it. It is really competitive as the seats are limited. I had heard a lot about Norquest in terms of education, professors and also economically it went well with me.
- My experience at Norquest College has been really amazing. I joined as Mental Health student in Jan 2020, it's a nice small college, the faculty is nice and warm, supportive as well in various ways.
Dislikes
- The thing I dislike about the Norquest college was that when I wanted to do another program in same college, I couldn’t find many options, they were to limited and streamlined into a particular field.
Thank you would be a small word to show my gratitude towards Norquest college. Taught me a lot, showed me thousands of different ways to progress and grow.
Course Curriculum
Yes it has variety of things to learn, the programs focuses on basically how to navigate the mental health community in Canada, major subjects focused concurrent disorders, addictions and the intercultural perspectives. I also had hands on training for about 4 weeks, in addition, I got three major certifications for mental health first aid, suicide prevention and non- violent crisis intervention.
Exams
My scores for IELTS were overall 6.5 with a minimum of 6 in each module and that’s their basic requirements. I did not have an interview neither did I submit SOP, LORS or CV.
Placement
It is really great, I had my placement in the Edmonton general hospital for a month and that was the best hands on training I could ever get. After completion I didn’t really got a change to visit any hospital directly as it was covid times.
Internship
I had placement directly from the college, it was unpaid but I made great connections and it was the best hands on training.
Fees
The total tuition fees back in 2020 was 13,500. I did not had to pay even a dollar extra for books or anything at all.
Scholarship
I did not receive any scholarships. But Norquest has lot many scholarship options after completing the program. They are also valid for international students.
Faculty
I would say that ratio was 1:20, there was lots different professors from variety of backgrounds. They were and are truly a gem, I still remember my professor Nicole and Mateo. Till date I am in contact with them through linkedin and work.
Campus Life
Campus life was really good, the college was welcoming and warm. Had lot of students space to study and relax and good wifi. They also has student engagement programs and I volunteered there got some extra money from there. There is a big library including computer area and tutor help. There are no sport facilities and that’s a major negative setback but Edmonton has lots of recreation centers.
Hostel
Norquest doesn’t have any Accommodation facility. But Edmonton is pretty big city with lots of Accommodation such as rental, PG and room sharing. P.s. it is lot cheaper than Toronto, Vancouver, Calgary etc.
