Note: Macquarie University tuition fees for are payable twice a year, in January and July. If you have received a tuition scholarship, you may be exempt from paying the Commencement Fee of 16,000 to 23,500 AUD. This will be mentioned in your offer letter.
Macquarie University Other Scholarships

As specified in the last column of the above table, applicants will have to submit an additional scholarship application form for several programs. While the deadlines for the scholarship application may vary, the application process is uniform for all:
- Step I: Complete your Macquarie University admission application and obtain the Student Number.
- Step II: Explore relevant Macquarie University scholarships. Verify eligibility, documents, and note Scholarship Name. For example, the name for Vice-Chancellor’s International Scholarship- FIRST is “FIRST”.
- Step III: Complete the scholarship application form.

It is essential for applicants to submit their completed scholarship application before the deadline (varies for scholarships) as incomplete applications will be automatically rejected.
Macquarie University Scholarships for Research Programs
Of the total funding budget for scholarships and grants, Macquarie offers approximately 35% to the incoming and continuing research program students. The majority of the recipients are supported under scholarships designed as a combination of internal and external sources.
Two of the biggest Macquarie University scholarships for international research students are:
- Macquarie Research Scholarship: International students applying for HDR programs at the university are eligible for Macquarie University scholarships.
- Benefits: Tuition fee waiver and an annual stipend of AUD 28,092 (2025 rate).
- Applicants of the Research Training Program(iRTP) and Macquarie Research Excellence Scholarship (iMQRES) are covered under this scholarship.
- Applicants must have an IELTS score of 7.0 or an equivalent TOEFL score.
- Australian Award Scholarships: Students belonging to countries outside Australia and New Zealand are considered for these scholarships.
- Benefits: Tuition fees, travel expenses, accommodation, Student Health Insurance, visa expenses.
- Proficiency in the English language, minimum TOEFL- iBT score of 78 or equivalent IELTS score.
- Evidence that the potential supervisor has offered in-principle support to the research topic.
In addition to research programs, Australian Award Scholarships are also available for international undergraduate and postgraduate degree program students.
