Monash College is Melbourne’s dedicated pathway institution founded in 1994, owned and operated by Australia’s #31 QS-ranked Monash University. It sits inside the Monash University Melbourne City campus at 750 Collins Street, with an additional campus at Caulfield East, ten kilometres south-east of the CBD.

The college delivers Foundation Year, Diplomas across Business, IT, Engineering, Art and Design, Science and Media Communication, plus English language and Study Abroad programs, all English-medium. It is India-relevant because 96% of diploma graduates transition into Monash University’s second year, and three intakes a year (February, June, October) fit Indian Class 12 exam calendars. Programme details sit in the fees table below; the MS universities in Australia guide covers postgraduate pathways after this diploma.

  • Parent university QS ranking: #31 in QS World University Rankings 2027
  • Acceptance rate: 40% to 45% (estimated)
  • Intakes: February, June, October (three trimesters per year)
  • Diploma tuition: AUD 30,300 to AUD 33,700 total (INR 20.62 to 22.93 lakh)
  • Diploma to Monash University transition: 96% of graduates progress
  • Application fee: AUD 125 (INR 8,506)

Fees are set each year and payable per trimester; unmet English scores can be topped up with the college’s own English course before the diploma starts. Indian graduates who progress to Monash University for undergraduate study qualify for the four-year Temporary Graduate Visa (Subclass 485) under the AI-ECTA agreement. Living costs in Melbourne are covered in the cost of living in Australia guide.

Exchange rate used: 1 AUD = INR 68.05 as of September 2026

Admission Status: Open (February 2027 intake). Applications for the primary February 2027 diploma and Foundation Year intake close 15 December 2026. The October 2026 intake closed on 31 August 2026, so Indian applicants should target the February 2027 start now, with the June 2027 intake (deadline 30 April 2027) as a backup for late applicants.

Popular Courses and Fees at Monash College 2027

Monash College charges diplomas as a total programme fee for the eight-month course, not per year. Diplomas cost between AUD 30,300 and AUD 33,700 in total, with the Foundation Year priced separately at AUD 31,960 (Standard) to AUD 45,750 (Extended). All five diplomas run over three trimesters and lead directly into the second year of the matched Monash University bachelor’s degree.

The five most-taken diploma programmes for Indian applicants are listed below. The Diploma Part 2 pathway needs Class 12 results, while Diploma Part 1 accepts strong Class 11 results as an early-entry route.

ProgramTotal fee (AUD)Total fee (INR lakh)Entry requirement
Diploma of BusinessAUD 33,30022.66 lakhClass 12 with 80% for Part 2 (recommended)

The top UG-linked Foundation Year variants (for students who need an extra year before a diploma or a direct bachelor’s route) are listed next. Duration ranges from nine to eighteen months depending on the variant, with Extended chosen most by Indian State Board students who need academic and English top-up.

ProgramTotal fee (AUD)Total fee (INR lakh)Entry requirement

Insider note: Indian students on non-CBSE and non-ISC state boards, plus students who scored 65% to 74% in Class 12, treat the diploma route as the most reliable entry, since direct Monash University admission needs Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka or West Bengal Class 12 completion at higher percentages.

Monash College Admission Requirements for Indian Applicants 2027

Requirements split cleanly by programme level, with Foundation Year the most accessible and Diploma Part 2 the most competitive.

  • Foundation Year and Diploma Part 1: Class 12 with 45% to 75% depending on the variant; IELTS Academic 5.5 overall (no band below 5.0), TOEFL iBT 69, or PTE Academic 46.
  • Diploma Part 2: Class 12 with 80% or higher, or completion of the Monash College Foundation Year; IELTS Academic 6.0 overall (no band below 5.5), TOEFL iBT 75, or PTE Academic 54.
  • Common documents: Class 10 and Class 12 mark sheets, passport bio-page, English test scorecard, and Statement of Purpose.
  • Accepted English tests: IELTS Academic, TOEFL iBT, PTE Academic, and Cambridge English (C1 Advanced or C2 Proficiency); students below the threshold can add the on-site English course before the diploma.

Key insight: Indian applicants from CBSE and ISC boards can meet Diploma Part 2 with 80%, but state-board students often use the Diploma Part 1 route to bank six extra months of academic ramp before the second-year jump into Monash University.

Monash College Acceptance Rate 2027

The published estimated acceptance rate at Monash College sits between 40% and 45% (estimated), well above the parent Monash University’s direct-entry admission rate. The figure is a third-party-derived estimate, since the college does not publish an official acceptance figure; treat it as directional rather than exact.

Selectivity varies by programme: Diploma of Engineering is the most competitive because of Maths and Physics prerequisites, while the Foundation Year Extended variant is designed as the safety route for students with 55% to 65% in Class 12.

Reality check: The pathway model means academic thresholds are lower than direct Monash University entry, but the exit standard is not; graduates must hit a Weighted Average Mark of about 60 to 65 to auto-progress into the second year of the matched bachelor’s degree.

Monash College Campus, Facilities and Student Life

Monash College teaches from two Melbourne locations: the 750 Collins Street tower in the Docklands precinct of the CBD, and the Caulfield East campus ten kilometres south-east, shared with Monash University’s Art, Design and Architecture faculty.

  • Location and transport: Both campuses sit on the free CBD tram network and metro rail, with Caulfield served by the Frankston line at Caulfield station opposite the campus gate.
  • Accommodation cost band: On-campus and Monash Residential Services rooms cost AUD 350 to 450 per week; no international-guarantee applies to Monash College students, so early booking is essential.
  • Facilities: Shared use of Monash University libraries, computer labs, sport centres and Monash Sport gym, plus a dedicated pathway student support team.
  • Indian student community: India is consistently a top-three source country for Monash College, with active Indian societies at both Melbourne City and Caulfield running Diwali and Holi events.

What Indian students say: Trimester pace is faster than Indian degree colleges, with weekly assessment loads that catch students off-guard in the first month; peer study groups at the CBD campus library are the most-cited coping strategy.

Monash College Scholarships 2027

Monash College Rankings 2027

Monash College is not independently ranked in the major world university rankings; its position for Indian applicants is defined by the destination Monash University, which reached its highest-ever position of #31 in the QS World University Rankings 2027.

As per QS, Monash University recorded the greatest 2027 improvement across Australia’s Group of Eight (the country’s eight most research-intensive universities), lifting five places on employer reputation and sustainability strength.

Key insight: The Monash University rank is the number that matters for post-diploma graduates, since the degree conferred is a Monash University degree; Indian recruiters and visa officers assess the destination, not the pathway.

Monash College Placements and Career Outcomes 2027

Monash College’s core outcome is progression into Monash University rather than direct placement, and placement figures below refer to the destination Monash University degree that diploma graduates enter.

  • Diploma to Monash University transition: 96% of diploma completers progress into Monash University’s second year.
  • Undergraduate employment at Monash University: 73% secure full-time work within six months of graduation.
  • Postgraduate employment at Monash University: 84% employed full-time within six months.
  • Median starting salary at Monash University: AUD 68,700 (INR 46.75 lakh) for undergraduates, per Australian Graduate Outcomes Survey market medians.
  • Post-study work visa for Indian graduates: Up to four years on the Temporary Graduate Visa (Subclass 485), including the extra year granted under the AI-ECTA agreement.

Insider note: Indian diploma graduates who complete a Monash University bachelor’s most often move into Big Four consulting, Australian bank graduate schemes, and tech firms with Melbourne offices; direct diploma-to-job placements are rare and not the intended outcome of the pathway.

Monash College vs Peer Pathway Providers

The peer set below covers Melbourne-based pathway providers into Group of Eight and top research universities, compared on parent-university QS rank and diploma fee band.

Pathway CollegeParent Uni QS Rank 2027Diploma Fee (AUD)Diploma Fee (INR lakh)Differentiator
Monash College, Melbourne#31 (Monash University)AUD 30,300 to 33,70020.62 to 22.93 lakh96% progression to Monash University second year

Deakin College, Melbourne#189 (Deakin University)AUD 28,000 (estimated)19.05 lakh (estimated)Lowest fees among Victorian pathways

Monash College stands out on the combination of Group of Eight destination rank (#31), transition rate (96%), and mid-band pricing. Trinity College is the only alternative for University of Melbourne aspirants, while UNSW College and Taylors College are the Sydney-based comparators.

Monash College suits an Indian student with 65% to 80% in Class 12, non-CBSE state boards, or an IELTS score in the 5.5 to 6.0 range, who wants a guaranteed pathway into a top-40 QS university in eight months rather than a full three-year local degree. Total investment lands at AUD 145,000 (INR 98.67 lakh) across the diploma plus two Monash University years, against a median first-job salary of AUD 68,700 (INR 46.75 lakh), giving a payback window of about two to three post-graduation years, further accelerated by the four-year study in Australia post-study work visa for Indian nationals.

It is not for Indian students who already have 90% or higher in CBSE or ISC Class 12 and can meet Monash University’s direct-entry threshold, or for those seeking postgraduate coursework; direct enrolment at Monash University or a peer such as University of Sydney is the shorter and cheaper route.

Monash College FAQs

Ques. Is Monash College the same as Monash University?

Ans. No, Monash College is a separate pathway institution owned by Monash University that delivers Foundation Year and Diplomas as an alternative entry route. Diploma graduates who meet the exit Weighted Average Mark are guaranteed second-year Monash University entry, but the diploma itself is a Monash College credential, not a Monash University degree.

Ques. Can Indian students work part-time while studying at Monash College?

Ans. Yes, the Subclass 500 student visa permits up to 48 hours of paid work per fortnight during trimester, with unlimited hours during official break periods. Most Indian students take retail, hospitality or campus jobs paying AUD 24 to 30 per hour, which covers roughly half of typical Melbourne living costs.

Ques. Does Monash College require GRE, GMAT or SAT scores?

Ans. No, Monash College Foundation Year and Diploma programmes do not accept or require GRE, GMAT or SAT scores. Admissions run on Class 12 percentage plus an accepted English test; the ATAR (Australian secondary school score) is used only for domestic students entering via the local admission route.

Ques. How is the Monash College application fee paid from India?

Ans. The AUD 125 application fee is paid online through the Monash College portal using an international debit or credit card at the time of submission. Indian applicants using education agents can route the fee via the agent’s Forex-enabled account, and refunds are only issued if the application is withdrawn before assessment starts.

Ques. Can the Monash College English course substitute for IELTS?

Ans. Yes, Monash College’s own English Language courses (Monash English Bridging and Introductory Academic Program) are internally accepted for progression into Foundation Year and Diplomas without a separate IELTS score. Course length is 10 to 40 weeks depending on the entry English level, and students pay each block separately in addition to the diploma fee.

Ques. Which Indian education loan banks recognise Monash College?

Ans. Monash College is on the approved international institutions list of SBI, Bank of Baroda, HDFC Credila, Avanse and Auxilo. Loan amounts up to INR 40 lakh are typically approved on parental collateral, and unsecured loans up to INR 20 lakh are common because of the guaranteed Monash University progression.

Ques. Do Monash College diploma credits transfer if a student moves to another Australian university?

Ans. Monash College diploma credits are designed specifically for progression into Monash University’s second year, and other Australian universities may only accept partial credit on case-by-case review. Students planning to transfer outside Monash typically lose one full semester of credit and should factor an extra AUD 20,000 in tuition into the switch decision.

Ques. What financial proof do Indian applicants need for the student visa?

Ans. The Subclass 500 visa requires evidence of AUD 29,710 in living costs plus one year of tuition (about AUD 33,000 for a diploma) and return airfare, held as fixed deposits or education loan sanction letters for at least three months. Indian applicants routinely show INR 45 to 50 lakh in liquid funds or a sanctioned loan letter to clear this test.

Overview

I didn't do much research beforehand so the decision was kind of rushed but it was my only pathway to get into Monash University. The reason why I didn't go to another uni college instead is that Monash I quite reputable and their campus is really nice.

Fees

I've paid my fees all upfront, it cost a fortune. There are some extra charges for those who want to take extra classes
