To mark World Environment Day 2026, the Vivekanand Education Society's College of Architecture (VESCOA) organized a unique series of site visits and awareness drives that took learning beyond the classroom and into the heart of nature.

Held under the theme of ecological urbanism and environmental responsibility, the initiative brought together students, faculty members, environmental experts, and nature enthusiasts to explore Mumbai's diverse ecosystems. Participants visited several environmentally significant locations, including mangrove parks, urban forests, wetlands, biodiversity trails, nature parks, and waste management facilities.

The objective was simple yet impactful—to help students understand the challenges and opportunities involved in creating sustainable cities. Through guided walks, cleanup drives, tree plantation activities, biodiversity explorations, and waste segregation awareness programs, participants gained first-hand exposure to environmental conservation practices.

What made these visits special was the opportunity to learn directly from experts and practitioners working on the ground. Their insights highlighted the importance of preserving natural ecosystems amidst rapid urbanization and demonstrated how small, collective actions can contribute to a greener future.

The initiative reflected VESCOA's commitment to nurturing environmentally conscious professionals who can integrate sustainability into architecture, planning, and urban development. More than just a field visit, the program encouraged participants to reconnect with nature, understand its value, and recognize their role in protecting it.

As cities continue to grow, such experiences serve as a reminder that sustainable development begins with awareness, responsibility, and a willingness to learn from the environment around us.
