SPJIMR admission without CAT runs on the GMAT for both flagship programmes. The PGDM and PGDM (BM) 2027-29 batches accept CAT and GMAT scores only. Applications for both opened on September 15, 2026 and close on November 27, 2026.

The GMAT window is wider than the CAT window. Tests taken between January 1, 2024 and December 10, 2026 are valid this cycle. Only scores from in-person test centres count. The online-proctored GMAT is not accepted for either flagship programme.

XAT is not on the accepted list for the PGDM or the PGDM (BM). It has been off that list since the 2021-23 batch. An XAT score still works at SPJIMR, but only on the GMP, PGPGM and PGMPW programmes. Full details sit on spjimr.org.

SPJIMR Admission Without CAT 2027: GMAT, Eligibility, Cutoff & How to Apply

SPJIMR Admission Without CAT 2027: Routes Accepted

SPJIMR runs several programmes, and each one publishes its own exam list. Only the flagship pair is restricted to CAT and GMAT. The table below shows what each route accepts apart from CAT.

Programme Exams Accepted Besides CAT Who Can Apply
PGDM GMAT Freshers and up to 5 years work experience
PGDM (BM) GMAT Freshers and up to 5 years work experience
PGPM GMAT Minimum 3 years relevant work experience
GMP GMAT, GRE, XAT, NMAT Graduates with 55 percent and above
PGPGM GMAT, XAT, MAT, CMAT, ATMA Minimum 4 years work experience
PGMPW GMAT, XAT, NMAT Women returning after a career break

So the GMAT is the only non-CAT route into the two-year flagship PGDM. Every other exam listed above leads to a different programme.

SPJIMR GMAT Route for PGDM and PGDM (BM) Admission 2027

The GMAT route is not a side door. It sits alongside CAT in the same application form and the same shortlist. SPJIMR states that it has no quota, management or otherwise.

Eligibility for the GMAT Route

Candidates need a Bachelor's degree in any discipline. The minimum is 50 percent marks or the equivalent CGPA. The degree must follow at least three years of study after Class 12.

Work experience is not mandatory. Freshers and final-year students can apply. Candidates with more than five years of experience are not eligible for the flagship PGDM.

Why the Online GMAT Does Not Count

SPJIMR accepts GMAT scores from authorised test centres only. An online-proctored attempt does not qualify, even if the score is high. This applies to the classic GMAT and the GMAT Focus Edition alike.

A candidate holding only an online attempt has two choices. Either book an in-person slot before December 10, 2026, or apply on a CAT score instead.

Accepted GMAT Score Validity Window for 2027 Admission

CAT and GMAT are treated very differently on validity. SPJIMR accepts only the CAT taken in the same year as the application. The GMAT gets a rolling three-year window for the flagship programmes.

Programme GMAT Scores Valid From Valid Until
PGDM January 1, 2024 December 10, 2026
PGDM (BM) January 1, 2024 December 10, 2026
PGPM September 30, 2021 September 30, 2026

The PGPM window runs five years, not three. That is the widest validity SPJIMR offers on any GMAT score.

Example: a marketing executive wrote the GMAT Focus Edition at a Mumbai test centre in March 2024. That score is valid for the PGDM 2027-29 application. A score from October 2023 would fall outside the window and cannot be used.

Qualifying Percentile and Cut-off for the GMAT Route

SPJIMR sets the bar in percentile terms, not raw marks. The same bar applies whether the score comes from CAT or GMAT.

Requirement Minimum Percentile
Overall percentile 85
Each section 75

Clearing this bar is mandatory but not sufficient. It only makes an application eligible for consideration. The shortlist itself is built on profile strength as well.

On the GMAT Focus Edition scale of 205 to 805, the 85 percentile mark sits below the top-decile band. A 655 total on that scale is roughly the 90th percentile as per current GMAC percentile tables. Candidates aiming for a comfortable margin usually target that band or higher.

How to Send a GMAT Score to SPJIMR?

Uploading a scorecard PDF to the application portal is not enough. The official score must reach SPJIMR through the GMAC portal. Each programme has its own reporting code, and the wrong code sends the score to the wrong programme.

Programme GMAT Reporting Code
PGDM 6DQ-MJ-98
PGDM (BM) 6DQ-MJ-68
PGPM 6DQ-MJ-12
GMP 6DQ-MJ-52

Candidates can also search the institute by name on the GMAC portal. The listing reads S.P. Jain Institute of Management and Research, followed by the programme name. For the GMP, the GRE code is 5020 and the TOEFL code is C862.

Do GMAT Applicants Need Maharashtra CAP Registration?

No. The SPJIMR PGDM does not run through Maharashtra CET CAP counselling. There is no centralised allotment round, no CAP merit list and no state seat matrix involved.

SPJIMR is an AICTE-approved autonomous institute awarding a diploma, not a state-affiliated MBA degree. It conducts its own admission end to end. The only external portal a GMAT applicant must use is the GMAC score-reporting portal.

The offer reaches the candidate directly from SPJIMR after the interview rounds. There is no common portal where candidates accept or freeze a seat.

Why XAT Is Not Accepted for SPJIMR PGDM?

SPJIMR stopped accepting XAT for the flagship PGDM from the 2021-23 batch. The accepted list was narrowed to CAT and GMAT, and it has stayed that way every cycle since.

The admission calendar explains a large part of it in practice. SPJIMR closes the 2027-29 application on November 27, 2026. Accepted scores must be dated on or before December 10, 2026. XAT 2027 is scheduled for January 3, 2027, well after both dates.

Example: a candidate registers for XAT 2027 in November 2026 and appears on January 3, 2027. That score cannot be attached to a PGDM 2027-29 application. The window it would have to fit has already closed.

Where an XAT Score Still Works at SPJIMR?

XAT remains a valid qualifying score on three SPJIMR programmes. The GMP accepts GRE, GMAT, CAT, XAT and NMAT. The PGPGM executive programme accepts XAT along with CAT, MAT, GMAT, CMAT and ATMA.

The PGMPW route is built for women returning to work. It needs at least three years of full-time experience and a career break of at least two years. GMAT, CAT, XAT and NMAT scores are all accepted there.

What Replaces the CAT Score in SPJIMR Shortlisting?

Dropping CAT does not remove a screening layer. A GMAT applicant faces exactly the same profile-first process that CAT applicants face. The exam score is a qualifying filter, not the ranking device.

Stage What Is Assessed
Profile shortlist Academic consistency across Class 10, Class 12 and graduation
Specialisation fit Relevance of work experience to the chosen specialisation
Versatility check Achievements outside academics and work
Interview rounds Two rounds, group and personal, held offline

Shortlisting happens in two streams. One is purely profile-based. The other combines profile with the entrance score. Meeting the minimum percentile is mandatory in both.

Interviews are generally held in January and February. They are conducted offline, and a confirmed slot cannot be rescheduled. The PGDM offers four specialisations: Finance, Information Management, Marketing, and Operations and Supply Chain.

How to Apply to SPJIMR Without a CAT Score?

  2. Register on the admissions portal at pgdmadmissions.spjimr.org using a valid email and mobile number.
  3. Fill the academic record, work experience and specialisation preference sections.
  4. Complete the profile essays covering achievements and interests.

Candidates who applied to SPJIMR in an earlier cycle should log in with the same email and mobile number. A fresh application is then started for the 2027-29 intake.

Ques. Can I apply for SPJIMR PGDM with an NMAT score?

Ans. No. NMAT is not accepted for the flagship SPJIMR PGDM or PGDM (BM). NMAT scores may be used for programmes such as GMP and PGMPW, subject to their respective eligibility and admission requirements. For PGDM admission, candidates can apply through the CAT or GMAT route.

Ques. Is work experience mandatory for SPJIMR PGDM admission through GMAT?

Ans. No. Work experience is not mandatory for the SPJIMR PGDM or PGDM (BM). Fresh graduates and candidates with no work experience can apply, provided they meet the academic and other eligibility requirements. Candidates with more than five years of work experience are not eligible for the flagship PGDM programmes.

Ques. What is the minimum GMAT or CAT cutoff for SPJIMR PGDM?

Ans. SPJIMR specifies a minimum qualifying entrance-test requirement for its PGDM admissions. The stated qualifying benchmark is 85 percentile overall and 75 percentile in each section. Meeting the minimum cutoff does not guarantee a shortlist or admission, as SPJIMR also considers the candidate's overall profile and selection performance.

Ques. Does SPJIMR offer profile-based shortlists for PGDM?

Ans. Yes. SPJIMR follows profile-based and profile-cum-score-based shortlisting for its PGDM admissions. A candidate's academic record, achievements, work experience and overall profile may be considered during shortlisting, along with the required entrance-test performance. A profile-based shortlist does not by itself guarantee final admission.

Ques. How many seats are available in SPJIMR PGDM and PGDM (BM)?

Ans. The SPJIMR PGDM has 240 seats for Indian nationals and 36 seats for foreign nationals, OCI and PIO candidates. The PGDM (BM) has 120 seats. The actual intake and category-wise distribution are subject to SPJIMR's admission information for the relevant batch.

Ques. What is the SPJIMR PGDM fee for the 2027-29 batch?

Ans. The indicative programme fee for Indian participants is ₹24.86 lakh, including tuition and basic accommodation as specified in the available programme information. Candidates should check the official SPJIMR fee structure before applying because fees and other charges can change.

Ans. No. SPJIMR does not offer a management quota for admission to the PGDM. Candidates applying through GMAT are considered through the same published admission process and selection criteria applicable to the programme.

Ques. Can I get admission to SPJIMR without CAT?

Ans. Yes. Candidates can apply for the SPJIMR PGDM and PGDM (BM) through GMAT instead of CAT, subject to the programme's eligibility, GMAT validity and minimum qualifying requirements. The GMAT route is an alternative entrance-test route and does not mean admission is guaranteed.

Ques. Can freshers apply for SPJIMR PGDM through GMAT?

Ans. Yes. Freshers are eligible to apply for the SPJIMR PGDM and PGDM (BM). Work experience is not compulsory, although relevant work experience, achievements and other aspects of the candidate's profile may be considered during the selection process.

Ques. Can candidates with a career break apply to SPJIMR without CAT?

Ans. Yes, depending on the programme. Women returning to the workforce after a career break can explore SPJIMR's PGMPW programme, which has separate eligibility requirements. The available criteria include at least three years of work experience and a career break of at least two years. The PGMPW is a separate programme from the flagship PGDM.

Ques. Is GRE or NMAT better than GMAT for SPJIMR PGDM admission?

Ans. For the flagship PGDM and PGDM (BM), GRE and NMAT are not accepted entrance tests. Candidates seeking admission to these programmes can apply through CAT or GMAT, subject to SPJIMR's applicable requirements.

Ques. Does applying through GMAT give any separate quota or advantage at SPJIMR?

Ans. No separate quota is indicated for GMAT applicants. Candidates applying through GMAT are considered through the SPJIMR admission process along with candidates applying through CAT. Shortlisting and final selection depend on the programme's stated criteria and the candidate's overall application and performance.
