SPJIMR profile-based shortlist is the first PGDM interview call of the cycle. It is released around early January, ahead of the score-based list. The same screen covers the PGDM and the PGDM (BM) programmes.
Applicants are sorted into two groups: Profile-based and Profile-cum-Score-based. Four factors decide the sort. These are academic record, work experience, entrance scores and achievements.
An early call still needs the qualifying entrance cutoff. For Indian applicants, that is 85 percentile overall and 75 percentile in each section. There is one common application form, open from mid-September to end-November, with a processing fee of INR 2,000. The form sits at pgdmadmissions.spjimr.org.

SPJIMR Profile-Based Shortlist 2027 Process
SPJIMR screens the application form before it ranks anyone on entrance marks. The institute states that applicants are shortlisted based on their profiles. Meeting the qualifying score in at least one accepted exam is mandatory.
The profiles are then evaluated and split into two lists. The first list goes out early, so candidates book interview slots before most other calls arrive. The second list follows once entrance scores are in.
What is a Profile-Based Call?
A profile-based call is an interview invite by SPJIMR for PGDM admissions that is driven by the application form itself. Academics, work experience and achievements carry the weight. The entrance percentile works as a gate to clear, not a rank to beat.
SPJIMR Profile-Based Call vs Profile-cum-Score-Based Call
Both calls come from the same form and lead to the same interview rounds. The difference lies in what tips the decision and when the list appears.
| Parameter | Profile-Based Call | Profile-cum-Score-Based Call |
|---|---|---|
| When the list appears | Around early January, ahead of the second list | After entrance results are declared |
| What decides the call | Academic record, work experience, achievements | Profile read together with the entrance score |
| Role of CAT or GMAT | Qualifying filter only | Qualifying filter and a deciding input |
| Application form | Same common form | Same common form |
SPJIMR Profile-Based Shortlist Criteria 2027
SPJIMR lists four selection factors on its admissions page. Three of them are read straight off the form at the shortlist stage.
Academic Consistency Across Class 10, Class 12 and Graduation
The stated criterion is strong and consistent performance. It covers Class 10, Class 12 and every year of graduation. One weak year pulls the whole record down.
Example: a record of 92 percent, 68 percent and 81 percent reads as a dip. A flatter record of 84, 86 and 85 percent reads as consistent. The second profile screens better even though the peak is lower.
Work Experience Relevance to the Chosen Specialisation
Work experience is not mandatory for the programme. Candidates with up to five years may apply. What counts is how the experience maps to the specialisation chosen on the form.
PGDM applicants pick two areas from Finance, Information Management, Marketing, and Operations and Supply Chain. Example: two years in a bank credit team supports a Finance choice. The same two years support a Marketing choice far less.
Versatility and Achievements
The fourth factor covers work in diverse fields of interest. Sport, music, debating, social work and student leadership all sit here. Noteworthy past achievements are read alongside them.
Entrance Exam Cutoffs for the SPJIMR Shortlist 2027
The entrance cutoff is a floor, not a ranking device, for the early list. CAT scores are accepted only from the same year as the application. GMAT and GMAT Focus scores from the last three years are accepted.
| Applicant Type | Sectional Cutoff | Overall Cutoff |
|---|---|---|
| Indian applicants (CAT) | 75 percentile | 85 percentile |
| Indian applicants (GMAT or GMAT Focus) | 75 percentile | 85 percentile |
| International applicants | 65 percentile | 75 percentile |
A candidate at 86 percentile with an even academic record can clear this gate. A candidate at 99 percentile with a broken record can still miss the early list. That is the design of the screen.
SPJIMR PGDM Admission 2027 Important Dates

| Profile-based shortlist released | Early January 2027 (expected) |
| Interview rounds | January and February 2027 |

How to Apply for SPJIMR Profile-Based Shortlist 2027?
There is no separate form for the early list. Every applicant who submits the common form is considered for it.
- Register on pgdmadmissions.spjimr.org with a working email ID.
- Enter Class 10, Class 12 and year-wise graduation marks in full.
- Pick the programme. PGDM applicants also pick two specialisations.
- Fill the work experience and achievements sections of the form.
- Enter the CAT registration number or the GMAT score details.
- Pay INR 2,000 for one programme, or INR 3,000 for both.
- Submit before the end-November deadline.
The achievements section is where the early call is usually won or lost. Two lines about a role held for three years read thin. The same role described with scale, duration and outcome reads far stronger.
What Happens After the Profile-Based Shortlist?
A shortlist is an interview call, not an offer. Shortlisted candidates pick an interview slot and a city. Once a slot is confirmed, it cannot be changed.
Two rounds of interviews follow, held in person. The first round runs on the chosen specialisation and the candidate profile. The second round moves to values and judgement.
| Interview Location | Tentative Window |
|---|---|
| Mumbai Phase 1 | January 2027 |
| Kolkata | January 2027 |
| Bengaluru | February 2027 |
| Delhi Phase 1 and Phase 2 | February 2027 |
| Mumbai Phase 2 | February 2027 |
Final selection is a composite call. It weighs the profile, the academic record, the entrance score, the work experience and both interviews. International applicants are interviewed online.

What Students Say About the SPJIMR Profile Shortlist?
The Class 12 Dip Is the Common Gap
Students consistently report that a weak Class 12 year is the usual reason a strong applicant misses the early list. Many describe a rough 90-90-80 band as the comfort zone. The published criterion is consistency rather than any fixed number.
The Form Takes Longer Than Expected
Students report that the achievements and work experience sections need days, not hours. Several describe starting the form in the last week and cutting detail to submit on time. The advice that recurs is to draft those answers well before the deadline.
An Early Call Is Not an Offer
Students describe the early call as a head start, not a result. Conversion still turns on the two interview rounds in Mumbai and the other cities. Freshers with clean academic records do report receiving early calls.
A Quora user asked “What is the difference between score-based and profile-based calls in SPJIMR?
How Does This Apply to SPJIMR 2027?
For the SPJIMR PGDM 2027–29 admission cycle, candidates can be considered through Profile-Based and Profile-Cum-Score-Based shortlisting.
Profile-Based Call: Candidates are shortlisted primarily on their overall profile, including academics, achievements, work experience and versatility, subject to meeting the required entrance-exam criteria.
Profile-Cum-Score-Based Call: Candidates are shortlisted after entrance-exam scores are available, with both their profile and test performance considered.
Final Selection: Both types of shortlisted candidates proceed through the subsequent selection process. A profile-based call is not a guarantee of admission.
