Course Curriculum

  • The difficulty level of the curriculum was 3/5. It also depends a lot on the courses the student takes. It was a good mix of theoretical, managerial and practical aspects of computer science.
  • Positive aspects: good professors, proximity to tech companies that help with securing a job, curriculum includes entrepreneurial courses also that help with understanding tech and business together.
  • Negative aspects of the course: the curriculum includes some mandatory courses that have to be taken. Also, the quarter system is extremely hectic and the students are on their toes throughout the degree program.
  • I joined the course in Spring 2022 and there were about 30 other students along with me, as the majority of them joined during the fall quarter. The average number of students in a class (a particular course) depends on the course, number of students registered and professor guidelines.
  • Most students admitted into MS CS, MS IS, and MS Business Analytics programs are Indians and Chinese, and I would say the percentage of Indian students in any course on average is 55-60%. But some courses have very less students and some have a lot. The average is about 55% though.

Fees

  • Tuition: 1121$/unit (46 units to be completed for MSCS) Medical insurance fees~$3600/year
  • Housing: $1,000/mo per head, including utilities, groceries, electricity and rent.
  • Tuition fees increases every year by some percentage (the website has more details)
  • Monthly stay: 775$(rent) + 50$(electricity) + 75$(utilities) + 100$(food and groceries)
  • The rent depends on what kind of apartment is occupied but other expenses remain more or less the same.

  • The courses for an International student should not be that much of burden as it is rigorous but nothing one cant handle. The courses are more application based than theory based so proper conceptual understanding is required to get good grades in the exams. The positives mainly have to do with the hands on approach which guarantees that you get a strong foundation in the subject negatives include tons of HW and projects. Typically is a 4 day week (M-Thu) with one class each day of 2 hr length. They done assist in any job search. Just started here so not sure about the professors I admire yet.

Fees

  • Per credit: 1206$; Total fees for 46 credits: 56k$; Accommodation: 15-16k$ total: 80k$ for 2 years.
  • Quarter-Based: International students are required to enrol in a minimum of 8 units each quarter—9839 $ per quarter for academics.
  • Monthly Expenses(rent + food) = around 1000$ per month for rent as housing is expensive in the bay area and for food if cooking at home can be done with 200-300$ per month

  • The difficulty of courses is medium. not super tough unless you take advanced courses
  • The positive aspect is professors - all of them have experience from the bay area which is good to know and learn about.
  • The negative aspect is duration - since its only 11 weeks, it gets difficult to learn about a topic in absolute depth
  • Every class occurs twice a week for 2 hours each.

Fees

  • Tuition is paid every quarter. right now it's $1240 per credit so depending on the number of units you take in a quarter, the tuition is calculated appropriately.
  • There's also a $190 grad engineering fee every quarter and one-time annual insurance fee ($3,700) which means for two years, you have to pay the insurance fee twice.
  • Depending on the apartments you stay, the monthly rent can be around $700 with electricity and other things like utilities, food can come up to a maximum of $900-$100

  • 3 core subjects are mandatory which are DAA, CA and OS
  • I’ve taken DAA and OOPS this quarter, DAA did not have a project it is more therotical
  • But OOPS has a project that I am currently working on!
  • I’m not sure about the rest of the courses
  • The number of classes depends on the subject enrolled in, typically 2 hours per day for 4 days a week
  • 30 students in a class
  • Ratio is 50:50 indians: chinese

Fees

  • The fees keeps changing every year
  • Its 1250$ per credit and we are supposed to take 46 credits throughout 2 years of masters
  • which amounts to 57,000 + we need to have medical insurance, which is 4000$ per year so the total fees including insurance is 65k usd
  • I live off campus; rent for a 2B2B anywhere nearby is around 4000$.
  • Monthly expenses apart from rent are $300-350.

Course was properly structured around the two years. Core courses make up a significant portion of the credits, focusing on foundational knowledge and essential skills in the field of study.

Fees

I personally took educational loan to complete my fees. Although scholarships are also provided to students but only to those with a higher merit. Santa Clara being a private university is really expensive so a student must manage his/her finances.

The course curriculum is thorough but also comparatively easy. If your focus is to get job in the States then you should apply to SCU. You can choose your courses from the variety of subjects available. It is also possible to register for a research project affiliated with some industry under certain professors.

Fees

Total fees I paid during my Masters was around $52,000.
