What Students Say
Likes
- Flexibility to choose your coursework after finishing the core competancy or required coursework.
- Good Campus , Solid Library, Excellent supporting resources for students, low cost of living.
- Helpful professors.
Dislikes
- Location is Ok. Not great as only University is there.
Course Curriculum
- It is not that hard, but you need to be consistent throughout the course to be good in your academics. It is not like the Indian mentality of studying like one night before the final exam, as most courses have a final exam weightage of 30-40 % only.
Admission Experience
- I choose as it was near Atlanta, which had good opportunities for jobs. Plus, the cost of living was low, and on-campus part-time job opportunities were pretty decent with a good pay rate.
- My Scores - GRE - 305/340, TOEFL - 91/120
Faculty
- It totally depends on your coursework, as some have compulsory courses with a 60:1 ratio and other courses of your choice will have a 35:1 ratio of students to professors.
- My major professors were Professor Ninghao Liu and Professor Jin Lu. They are the best in their field and are really helpful and supportive. But Professor Liu has just transferred to another University.
Campus Life
- Campus life is Good for clubs and activities, with 4 libraries and individual labs for research assistants. Great Sports facility for playing with international areas and a great Gym.
Part Time Jobs
- There are both on-campus and off-campus jobs available easily. But getting TA, RA, DA positions has some choosing criteria, like Thesis and PHD students are given preference over Non-Thesis Students.
- Maximum hours allowed are 20 per week, and during breaks, it can extend to 40. The university has a good portal to apply for part-time jobs, which is easy to use and access.
Placement
- My time in the market was very bad, so we had very few companies visiting during the Career Fair for Computer Science people, and they were not hiring International Students.
- We have to work out our own way of finding jobs, internships, etc. Networking with fellow UGA members helps to get opportunities well, but it also depends on the company for going forward.
Accommodation
- There are various off campus accomodations available, which are cheap and good. You can search on the internet, and you can find it. Also, you can join various student WhatsApp groups by messaging the Indian Student Associate members through LinkedIn or through current Students.
Exams
- Simple admission process with GRE and TOEFL exam scores.
- An important factor is the Statement of Purpose (SOP) and letter of recommendation-3
- Also, applying early is important when the applications open.
- It is not that hard, but you need to be consistent throughout the course to be good in your academics. It is not like the Indian mentality of studying like one night before the final exam, as most courses have a final exam weightage of 30-40 % only.
Fees
- Total Cost for me was USD 42,000
