What Students Say
Likes
- Great Platform to learn some new materials everyday.
- So many different organisation to join and get involve in campus.
- Tier 1 research university in united states.
Dislikes
- Only one thing which I don't like here at UNT is it's very difficult to find a parking spot when you have your classes in pick time on mondat to friday. This is with all the university but to solve this issue we only got one option that we need to go to school 15-20 minutes early to find parking.
Course Curriculum
- Course syllabi are updated every semester, depending on the course instructor.
- It's optional if you want to add a thesis (Research) to your major.
- Undergrad might have 2-3 classes on average per day, while grads may have 1-2. There are a lot of time slots available to pick your classes. Mostly classes start around 8 AM and end around 5:30 PM. If you have class only 2 days a week the the class time is 1 hour and 20 minutes. If you have class 4-5 days a week, then class time is around 50 minutes.
- It totally depends on what type of class you take. If I am taking Calculus, I might have 100 students in a class, and if I am taking my major class, for example, let's say engineering materials or manufacturing, then I might have 40-50 students in a class, or fewer or maybe more.
Admission Experience
- Back in 2015, when I visited united states as an vistor, I saw of a university in Houston, and that changed my mind to pursue my future education in united states. Why I chose UNT: it has a strong academic background, with 130-190 different career options available to choose from. On top of that, they have a separate engineering campus known as Discovery Park, which is well known for engineering.
- They have a big space at the engineering campus where all the engineering labs are located, and students can learn something new day by day in these engineering labs. A lot of personal training options are available, and as I am majoring in mechanical engineering, they do offer a lot of certifications that you can achieve without any cost; it's completely free. If you have to get the same certification from outside, they will charge you a lot of money for certification plus the cost for your software license can also apply. So overall UNT has a lot of available resources and opportunities available where students can learn and gain knowledge with the help of high-ranking faculty.
- IELTS: 6.0 (Overall Band)
- DET: 100
- SAT: 560 minimum or higher in both writing and reading.
- ACT: 21 or higher in English
- TOEFL: 79
Faculty
- Each faculty has their office hours pretty much twice a week, and if you are available at the time the faculty is available, then you can always schedule an appointment to meet them.
- My role models who helped me a lot to achieve greater heights at UNT and in my career are Richard Pierson (Engineering Manufacturing Facilities Manager at UNT), Robbin Shull (Senior Lab Supervisor at UNT), and Dr. Mark Waskowski (Clinical Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at UNT)
Campus Life
- There are so many organizations available to students, which include SAE clubs, IEEE clubs, SHPE clubs, AEE clubs, SWE clubs, etc. These clubs help a lot for students when they are looking for an internship/career job in the future. UNT has 3-4 libraries on its campus. out of 4 libraries, one library name Willis Library, is open for students 24/7.
Part Time Jobs
- Working off-campus is illegal in the United States. You can only work outside if you have a proper internship/Full-Time position available with proper documentation and a signed I-20 from the International Students Office. Students can earn 7.25$/hr minimum according to the Texas state minimum wage.
- Students can apply for an on-campus part-time job through their university career platforms. Almost all universities use the Handshake job portal. 20 hours per week is the minimum number of hours you can work in a week. It is up to the individual how they prepare for an interview to secure part-time jobs. On average, 7-10 students get TA positions. (This also depends on how many courses have been scheduled for a particular semester.)
Placement
- A lot depends on the market and the US economy. One can have a job if they have prior internship experience or project experience. The length of the job when one can get it totally depends on the company how long they take to get back to the individual after having an interview. I'll say getting an interview is a must, and then it might take 2-3 weeks to hear back, and then they do a background check, drug test, etc. So, 1-2 months if you have an interview lined up.
- 85,000 USD to 1,12,000 USD if you have Grad degree. If you have an UnderGrad Degree, it might be 75-000 1,00,000 USD. This also depends a lot on how big your company is and in which state you are working from.
- Every semester, students have a career fair where a lot of company and recruiters comes and interview students. Another way to apply for an internship and for a full-time job is from online career platforms such as LinkedIn, Indeed, company websites, Glassdoor, etc.
Accommodation
- There are several accommodation links on WhatsApp where you can find your accommodation. In Denton, Texas, for sharing a room, it will cost you around 400$ per month + Utilities + Wifi + trash, etc., for a shared room and for an unfurnished apartment.
- For a private room, it will be around 750-800 $ per month for 1 bed.
