Course Curriculum

10

  • Course curriculum changes from time to time – not hard, not easy. There are one or two classes a day based on your choice during signing up, each lasting about 3 hours.

Admission Experience

  • I have applied to 4 universities as follows:
    • Received admission from the University of Delaware and joined.
    • Received admission from eastern Illinois university and didn't join, as it is Expensive.
    • Illinois Tech University - Admitted - Didn't join, as I felt Delaware is the better option
    • Columbia University – Rejected – May be due to less Toefl Score.
  • I have multiple reasons to choose this university:
    • It's affordable to me.
    • I also found a few people joining the same university so I will not have a problem moving forward.
    • This is a GRE Waived University. So, I don't have to write the exam for the GRE.
    • Application fee was waived, as I was given a waiver code.
  • Admission Process:
    • I applied through the online website and uploaded my transcripts (no need to mail them) and other documents.
    • Scores for Toefl or Ielts are dependent on the department. My department needs at least 100 for Toefl and 7.5 for Ielts.
    • Admission process is smooth, and the university provided clear guidelines from filling the applications to signing up for classes.
    • I applied to the 2023 February Intake. I felt this university is appropriate in my case in terms of expenses and having people from the same university around me. I started the application process in August 2022 and the TOEFL exam in August 2022. I received admission from the university in September 2022. I scheduled my Visa in October and Visa interview happened in December and came here a week early, in January 2023. University started on February 6th.

Class Schedule

10

  • Class sizes are usually around 25 - 30 students. Classes are diverse; some are interactive too. There can be online papers exams, online exams with no internet, pure online exams, assignment submissions, quizzes, etc.

Faculty

8

  • Professors are supportive and always willing to help during office hours. 1 faculty person for each subject for every 25-30 people in a class. Teaching methodology differs from person to person, as the university has full flexibility with respect to curriculum, exams, teaching procedure, and conducting of classes (online/offline).
  • Many students work as Teaching assistants/ Research Assistants (part-time) under professors. I admire Guido Geerts; his way of teaching is awesome. You learn a lot in class; classes are interactive.

Campus Life

8

  • There will be events going on across the campus every day. You just have to make time for them; most of them are sponsored, so you will receive free food and some goodies like pens, caps, T-shirts, bags, etc.
  • We have almost all the facilities needed, like an athletic center, Library, Gym, Swimming pool, and community groups. We also celebrate festivals on campus like Diwali, Garba, and Holi.

Part Time Jobs

  • TA/RA will be given to 20% of students upon emailing and reaching out to professors with appropriate skills. Pay will range from $15 to $25 per hour based on funding.
  • Other on-campus jobs, like Dining - Food service workers, Library assistants, Gym assistants etc., are available with a starting pay of $15 and will generally be given 20 hours per week, based on immigration rules. It's easy to find a part-time job on campus.
  • Most Indians prefer to work as a TA/RA or any desk job. However, a greater number of positions are available in dining. It's generally easy to find a job on campus. Students have to apply through the career page and go for an interview upon scheduling. They are not really particular about resumes, unless for RA/TA. A student will be given almost 20 hours per week and $15-$22 as pay per hour.

Placement

8

  • Due to the recession right now, there are not many opportunities out there. However, you will have to try hard and apply every day. Average salary can be between $75000 and $100k upon graduation from my program. University provides career fairs; However, you will have to apply jobs through career pages, LinkedIn, indeed etc., As we are local to Sallie Mae and JP Morgan Chase, it is likely to hire people form university of Delaware.

Accommodation

Off Campus
8

  • I opted for Off campus accommodation using leasing websites. I have a group of 4 people. So, it cost around $450 per head in sharing. However, there are cheaper options.
  • For future students, look for apartments like Southgate Garden, Lehigh, Thorn or any townhouses using the Zillow website. Make sure the accommodation has a UD Shuttle bus facility, which helps you commute within the university.

Exams

  • GRE was waived for this university. So, the GRE is not required. However, GRE/GMAT/SAT can be an added advantage.
  • One of the English proficiency tests, like IELTS/TOEFL is required.
  • Have to submit SOPs, LORs, Transcripts online. You can submit the hard copies upon arrival.
  • No interview needed during the admission process. However, Visa interview is usual.

Fees

  • Fee Structure:
    • It is credit-based. Number of credits needed to finish for a particular degree changes from course to course. One credit cost is $1028. I finished 30 credits for my degree.
    • There are a few mandatory fees, like the International Service Fee (I was charged $180 per semester) and Health Insurance (differs from semester to semester, around $1500 - $1600).
    • Monthly expenses differ from $500 to $1000, based on your preferred way of living (shared room/private room, etc.).

Scholarship

  • No External Scholarship for International Students. However, For the first semester, based on your profile, you may be given 50% off of the tuition fees upon asking (if not asked, no use). If you are a TA/RA, you may be given a tuition waiver. I haven't received anything, as I have not asked in my first semester and am not a Teaching Assistant or Research Assistant.
