What Students Say
Likes
- Campus - The campus is huge!
- Transportation - There are campus shuttles and state busses that can move you around for cheap
- Library - Great place to get things done in peace and they have everything for support
Dislikes
- Campus location - There are not many fun spots around the campus and far from international airports
- Funding - Some departments are funded more than others which creates lack of research opportunities
- limited course availability - no matter how early you try to register the course it gets full really quicks because of less seats available
Required Exams for Admission
Course Curriculum
- The curriculum difficulty and practicality depends on the course, faculty and the Department. For most courses there's a mic of everything in terms of theory, applications, practicals etc.
- Some courses will have a difficult grading scheme than others and the exams most likely do not contain theorotical questions they are purely based on application of the theory, cheat sheets are allowed for most exams to ensure there is no rot learning of the concepts.
Admission Experience
- Applied to- 1) Arizona State University - Accepted, 2) State University of New York, Buffalo - Accepted,3) University of Michigan - Accepted,4) University of Delaware - Admitted
- Rejected by-1) Oregon state University - Rejected
- The program at Oregon state university is highly competitive and Research oriented and needs a high GPA which I did not have, That's why I think I was rejected
- The major factor was fees, since the fees of University of Delaware is significantly lower than other universitites and because of RPNG lab aswell.
- The admission process was similar to other universities which required 3 LORs, 1 SOP, and IELTS or TOFEL score and answer to few questions about leadership quality and academic excellence.
- There is not GPA and GRE minimum score requirement, For IELTS the score needs to be more than 7 in all sections
- The admission process was smooth because of early bird application and early decision
- I applied for Fall 2024 intake, Factors like research outcome, curriculum relevance and cost of attendance were the important points to consider for me.
- I applied in the month of December and received an admit on 25th of January. The admissions are on rolling basis so there are no deadlines. After the Acceptance to the university there was no deadline to send the decision and there was no fees to block the seat.
Class Schedule
- There are usually 2 classes schedules depending on the level of course like a 600 or a 800 depending on the subject there can be 30 to 90 students in each class.
- In my course there are 8-10 indian students
Faculty
- The ratio is approx 1:12, the ratio imacts the availability of research opportunities.
- The teaching methodology is decent, getting a job or not is more of a function of students abilities to grasp than faculties ability to teach.
- Its a Grad course, some level of self study and maturity is expected. The teaching methodology include classroom sessions, practical sessions and doubt solving sessions and faculties office hours for other queries
- I have not explored that aspect of faculty networking, I hace just been in contact with them for academic purposes.
- Also I admire Dr. Tanner for his imense teaching skills.
Campus Life
- There are total 4 campuses, Lewis campus in Lewis, South campus in south newark, north campus in central newark and east campus, facalities like library, gym, sports, swimming, and medical sevicies are avaialble
- Holi, Diwali, Thanksgiving and Christmas are mahor festivals celebrated. I am not sure of the clubs. There are a lot of extracurricular activites like internation coffee hours and cultural nights etc
Part Time Jobs
- I am not sure how many people secure Teaching Assistant (TA), Research Assistant (RA), or Departmental Assistant (DA) positions but i guess close to 50 - 80ish students each semester, The pay randge varies from department and faculty but it can be from 13.5 to 30 dollars.
- There are other opportunities in IT and dinning and other on campus labs and facilities. The difficulty to get them depends on students own abilities and willingness to get it. Max allowed hours are 20 hours
- Students earn 15 dollars a hour, its managable not too easy or not too difficult. The process can include applying online, mailing the required person or meeting them in person depending on the type of the job, department offering and the person who is hiring for the required role. The process may or may not include the interview. The dining jobs specifically do not require interview
Placement
- I think 90 percent students secure job before 6 months.
- The average saray can range from 120k to 200k dollars. common methods such as campus recruitment, internships, networking, or online job portals like linkedin, Indeed, Handshake etc are used and Career fairs are also a great place to improve the reach and try to make yourself more visible in the job market
Accommodation
- I found the accomadation on appratment.com and found roommates through wahtsapp groups.
- My monthly rent is 1894 dollars which includes gas and heating, there's seprate bill for light, water and wifi.
- I did not face much challanges while finding the accomadation which was a pretty straight forward process of understanding locations close to the university for the accomadation there's nothing so difficult about it.
- My accomadation is 2KMs away from the university. Most indian students live at Pine Brook Apartments.
Exams
- For graduate courses Exams like GRE are not mandatory but one can submit the scores while IELTS exam scores are necessary with each section having a score of more than 7 is required.
- Documents like Transcripts, Statement of purpose , 3 letters of reccomendation and Resume were required. and there was no interview for me to complete the admission process.
Fees
- The Fees are based on credits, each credits costs $1039 dollars and to complete the masters program total 30 credits are to be completed. which is a total of 31170 dollars
- On top of it there are charges for student well being - $714, student center - 278 and international student servies - 360 dollars charged semester wise.
- One more expense is medical instarace which is 1500 dollars for each semester
Scholarship
- No I have not recieved any scholarships from UD so far but getting a research assistantship or teaching assistantship can waive off entire semester fees but it depends on the department, faculty and thier funding sources for that project.
- I have seen couple of graduate students getting their fees waived off for the fall 2024 semester and spring 2025 semester
