Reason for choosing my college
- The location of the college is great it is near the bay area which makes it accessible to travel to both san jose and San Francisco. The course and the same curriculum was also bot provided anywhere else.
Colleges Where I Was Rejected
Reason for Rejection
- I guess they needed more real world experience. Also my GRE score was 310 and I believe they wanted more GRE score than what I had. Also these were pretty competitive universities that I had applied to.

Tips to enhance your application
- One should surely add research experience in the SOP. Other than this one should add any teaching assistant or research assistant experience if there. Also make sure to add extracurricular activities.
Admission Experience
- The location was the first and foremost reason to choose this university. It is near the bay area which makes it more accessible to travel to San Jose and San Francisco. Also the course of statistics was not offered anywhere else. Other than this the experience of the professors is also quite impressive.
Class Schedule
- I have two days of classes each week which is Tuesday and Thursday in the afternoon from 1 to 6pm. Other than this I spend around 5 days in doing assignments and self study. There are around 50% Indians in my course. There are two options online and offline. Both having average strength of 30 in each class.
Faculty
- The approach and teaching style of all the faculty members is same. They take theory of one topic and then they take practicals on the same. Every week we have new datasets and new problems to work on. Also I like Prof. Wendy, Prof. Joshua and Prof. Myung. All of them have a similar way of teaching but have an extensive research experience.
Campus Life
- My university has lots of campuses one of which is east bay, Hayward. The library is of three floors and also has study rooms which one can book. Also there a RAW center at the college which is at just another level. There is block party that happens on every intake. There are numerous levels of clubs.
Part Time Jobs
- Most of the Indian students work at Dining Commons. It is quite hard to get an on campus job due to a large number of people applying for the job. The usual process for dining commons is that we apply through compass portal and then we get shortlisted. For other office jobs we need to look at handshake.
- There are numerous on campus jobs in my campus from dining commons to office jobs as well. The average pay is also around 17 dollars. The maximum number of hours is 20. It hard to find internships these days due to funding issues and lot of competition. But we at this university get tools like job scan free of cost.
Placement
- There numerous number of opportunities like Statistician, Data Science, Data Engineer, AI Engineer, ML Engineer, etc. We usually apply through handshake and linkedin. Also there are career fairs that happen through out the year at our university which also help us in getting full time and internships.
Accommodation
- There are various groups that are there, I joined these groups and got my roommates and my apartment too. There are numerous challenges like finding the apartment in City View because it is near the university if not then we need to find it somewhere down the hill. I would recommend to just keep an eye on the site and find an apartment in City View.
