Course Curriculum

10

  • The course curriculum is more practical than theoretical.
  • Positive aspects include friendly instructors, open lab access, and the freedom to implement your project ideas however or whatever you want. I don't think of any negative aspects of my course.
  • There are around 6 hours of classes per week.
  • Yes, all faculty members help students find part-time jobs on campus or long-term internships in the industry. Prof. Baris Aksanli and Prof. Dravko Lukic.

Admission Experience

  • I applied to the following universities:
    • SDSU (San diego state university)
    • UCSD (University of San Diego)
    • SJSU (San jose state university)
    • Drexel school of engineering
    • UCR (University of Riverside)
    • Received admits from UCR, Drexel and SDSU
    • Rejects from SJSU and UCSD
  • High cutoff rate and limited seats in SJSU and UCSD. As these colleges are more connected to Silicon Valley, their demand increases. As well as the ranking and placement score, play an important role.
  • The main reason to choose this college is the specialisation option in the interested depth area.
  • The course structure is too unique where you pick a core course following the depth area courses and breadth area courses.
  • The admissions process was super smooth. Accept offer, pay deposit of $300, buy health insurance, vaccination certificates and enrol in a course.
  • You only require a TOEFL score and WES report. Overall, the admissions process was easy and simple to execute.
  • I applied for the fall intake, which generally has more available seats for admissions and increases the chances of acceptance. Additionally, the fall intake offers more courses than the spring intake, providing students with a good head start in their chosen area of specialisation.
  • The complete admission process took around 3 to 4 months to complete, depending on the time required for vaccination and document collection

Faculty

10

  • 20 students on average can be found in the class.
  • Around 3 to 4 Indian students are enrolled in my course.
  • We have around 20 to 25 faculty, each having special PhD and depth area course responsibility, which helps students ask queries and find their relevant professor for projects or theses.
  • All faculty members follow different patterns, which include in-class quizzes, projects, midterms, finals, and attendance. All the topics covered are sufficient for gaining knowledge to apply for internships.

Campus Life

10

  • My college has one main campus area located at 5500 Campanile Drive.
  • All facilities like cafes, restaurants, sports, gyms, gaming rooms, turf, stadiums, auditoriums, and much more are available.
  • SDSU celebrates all festivals in the USA with lots of decorations and free food. They also celebrate Indian cultural events on campus.
  • All sports are included on campus with dedicated clubs that students can join and practice accordingly.

Part Time Jobs

  • Almost everyone gets an on-campus job here at SDSU with an average pay of $1600 per month.
  • Other on-campus jobs include working in the sports area, cafe, and library.
  • A maximum of 20 hours a week is allowed for international students.
  • It is easy to secure an on-campus job; you just need to be timely in mailing and applying, which you should probably start from July for the Fall intake.
  • 16.5 to 22$ hourly is earned by students on hourly basis in their part-time jobs. It is easy to secure an on-campus job; you just need to be timely in mailing and applying, which you should probably start from July for the Fall intake. Directly start applying to professor by mailing them for open positions or get a tour of university and apply to every shop u came through on campass.

Placement

8

  • Around 95% of students graduating secure employment within 6 months of completing their course.
  • The average salary ranges from $9k to $13k per month.
  • We have a portal named Handshake where students can apply and find jobs.
  • I am in the 1st year of my course, so I don’t have much experience regarding the placement experiences of my batchmates.
  • Qualcomm, NVIDIA, Apple, Particle, and other hardware industries work in fabrication and embedded fields.

Accommodation

Off Campus
8

  • We used Google Maps to find nearby renting apartments near campus and directly applied via referrals from seniors we connected with on LinkedIn. I would be happy to help my juniors find one.
  • The monthly rent is $2930 with all facilities like a pool, garden, open area, parking, etc.
  • Finding accommodation was not a challenge for me.
  • Diplomat Apartments, Dorchester Apartments, and Penthouse Apartments.
  • My apartment is around 1 mile away from the main campus.

Exams

  • TOEFL scores are sufficient for SDSU, but having a GRE score can improve your chances of admission. One Statement of Purpose (SOP) and three Letters of Recommendation (LORs) are required to apply to SDSU.
  • For state universities like SDSU, there is no interview process; everything is handled online and through email. They are quick in responding, so no issues typically arise during the admission process.

Fees

  • Entire course costs upto to 38,000$ (19000$ per year with 2 semesters)
  • Fees are charged semester-wise. Estimated monthly expense is about 820$, 560$ rent. Groceries, electricity and misc are the rest after paying the rent.
  • Usually the rent is about 560 to 590 in a 5-sharing apartment but goes up when shared in 4.
  • Near Campus, all are mostly taken by the undergrad students with $1,000 per month.

Scholarship

  • Me and friends, no one got a scholarship at SDSU. SDSU offers great opportunities for on-campus jobs, which will provide a tuition fee waiver of about $3000.
  • None of my batchmates got a scholarship or other financial aid. As per my connection with Indian students at SDSU, no one got the scholarship.
  • Rest all will get the tuition fee waived off only when a student gets a TA/RA/GA position.
