I chose this college for its strong reputation, affordable tuition, and excellent on-campus job opportunities.

First, you must fill in the information on the Cal State Portal and select San Diego State University. Next, you need to complete the WES evaluation and submit the scores to San Diego State University. My course required only a transcript and resume. Lastly, I would suggest maintaining a good GPA to secure admission into SDSU. The deposit amount was $400, with a deadline in mid-May.

The overall admission process was very smooth, and the university admission committee helped at every step. I recommend applying as soon as possible to secure admission.

I chose Fall 2024 because many universities offer a wider range of courses in the Fall semester. Additionally, graduating in the Summer allows you to quickly apply for full time opportunities, aligning well with career timelines.

I applied in November 2023 and received credentials for the SDSU portal within a week. In December 2023, I submitted the WES evaluation, TOEFL scores, and resume. I received my admission offer in the first week of March 2024 and paid the $400 deposit in mid-May. I received the I-20 immediately and arrived at SDSU in August 2024.
Class Schedule
- Usually there are 5–6 classes per week, with each class lasting 75 minutes. The timings vary;
- Some classes are held in the morning, while others are scheduled in the evening. My class has Around 40 students, out of which around 35-40% are Indian.
Faculty
- The faculty-to-student ratio in my course is 1:25, which is great. This allows teachers to give students more attention, interact with them often, and provide strong support. As a result, the quality of education is very high.
- Teaching Style: The teachers use the latest course materials and give challenging assignments to help students improve both their practical skills and theoretical knowledge. This well-rounded approach prepares students well for future jobs.
- Help with Jobs: Yes, the faculty is very supportive when it comes to helping students find part- time or full-time jobs. They use their connections and references to guide students in their careers. Mr. Irfan Khan, in particular, goes the extra mile to assist students.
- Favorite Teachers: I really admire Mr. Sean King and Mr. Hoa Wu. They have a great way of teaching, are dedicated to their students, and make even difficult topics easier to understand. Their knowledge and friendly attitude make them stand out.
Campus Life
- The San Diego campus and the Imperial Valley campus together comprise the main two Campuses of SDSU. However, for remote learning, SDSU has its extended arm-the Online Global campus-that many students may prefer for some flexibility. SDSU has a plethora of Amenities that enricher student life. With tons of resources, guided study spaces, and support For researchers, the library serves as a great facility for study work.
- The sports facility is one of The most beautiful features of this campus, which includes fitness programs, gym, and courts Chat keep students active and healthy. Other on-campus medical services offer health Consultations, emergency care, and wellness programs to promote physical and mental well-Being.
- Also characteristic of campus life is the vibrant scene of SDSU that promotes big festivalsand campus-wide events that pull students together. Various cultural holidays and international celebrations are honored on campus, thus providing an opportunity for everyone to meet the lifestyle of other traditions.
- Other bigger events include annual cultural festivals, career fairs,and community-building activities, fun and engaging. Plenty of different groups may register for student clubs and organizations, depending on the cultural aspect of students and ; interests, ongoing social initiatives, and hobbies.
- Another important aspect of student life is extracurricular activities that are a core part of SDSU. Sports lovers have loads of opportunities to join intramural and varsity teams for basketball, soccer, swimming, and athletics. Set against this backdrop of cultural activities, music concerts, dance competitions, and art exhibitions are organized, giving students platforms to showcase their talents.
Part Time Jobs
- Around 10-15% of Indian students at SDSU manage to get Teaching Assistant (TA), Research
- Assistant (RA), or Departmental Assistant (DA) positions. Other students usually find different part-time jobs on campus. These jobs pay between $18 and $22 per hour.
- Apart from the above-mentioned positions, there are multiple other on-campus jobs available, such as:- Restaurant staff, Kitchen support, Sports activity helper, Stadium support, and Cashier positions. These jobs are comparatively easier to get, and the majority of students choose these options.
- Students can work up to 20 hours per week during the semester and 40 hours per week during holidays.
- Finding on-campus jobs at SDSU is easier compared to 90% of other universities in the U.S., making it a great option for international students looking for part-time work.
- Students typically earn between $16 and $20 per hour in part-time jobs, depending on the role and responsibilities. Getting a part-time job is moderately challenging. Success depends on how well students manage their time, priorities, and course workload.
- For TA/RA/GA Positions: Email professors to ask about available opportunities. They will get in touch if their requirement matches your skill set.
- For Other On-Campus Jobs: Check the Handshake portal for job openings at SDSU and submit your application with a well-prepared resume and any required documents.
Placement
- Around 80% of students secure a job within six months of completing their course. Graduates typically earn about $85,000 per year, depending on their job role, experience, skill set and the industry they choose.
- Students use different methods to find jobs after graduation, including: LinkedIn, Career Fairs, reaching out directly to companies or recruiters via email or walk-in, Online Portals (Indeed and Handshake) and Referral from faculties and seniors.
- Some major companies that hire graduates from the program include: ServiceNow, Apple, ASML
Accommodation
- Using online groups from my consultancy and approaching seniors for help resulted in solid options for living spaces.I paid $2800 a month for a 2BHK apartment. The apartment is furnished with facilities such as a swimming pool, refrigerator, washing machine, dishwasher, gas stove, oven, and storage space.The challenge was there weren't many Indian students, so it was hard for me to find accommodation.
- However, after some time and effort, I got to a good place.
- Tips for Future Students: I would encourage contacting seniors on LinkedIn; theyoffer great advice and help with a good place to stay.
- The distance from campus is maybe about 1 mile, so it's very easy and convenient tocommute.Most Indian students prefer staying in Penthouse, Dorchester, and Diplomat apartments. They are about 1 mile from the college and offer a comfortable, student-
friendly environment.
Exams
- Exams: TOEFL and GRE are not mandatory for admission but can enhance your application. IELTS, GMAT, PTE, or SAT are not required for my program.
- Documents: The process required only a resume and WES evaluation (transcripts). No Statement of Purpose (SOP) or Letters of Recommendation (LOR) were necessary, making the application simple.
- Interview: There was no interview as part of the application process, ensuring it remained straightforward and hassle-free.
Fees
- I-20 mentioned a total $45,000 for 1 year which included tuition fees $ 19,766, Living Expenses $ 22,813, Health Insurance, Books, Supplies $ 3,146. But in total, my tuition fees are $32000 for 2 years and health insurance is $2000 per year.
- Fees are credit based, and semester based.
- Average rent: $850 - $1000. Rent and utility: $600, WiFi – Mobile recharge: $50, Food and other expenses $200.
Scholarship
- San Diego State University does not provide scholarships for international students unless they work as Teaching Associates (TAs). TAs are eligible for a $2,000 scholarship during the semester in which they serve in the role.
- This opportunity allows students to gain valuable teaching experience while receiving financial support for their studies which really helps for an international students.
