What Students Say
Likes
- College in proximity with lots of startups and industries in the field of biomedical engineering, affordable fees.
- Lots of research opportunities across different fields, very experienced professors to provide guidance in research fields, very active on-campus groups and activities, great location, affordable cost of attendance
Dislikes
- Very few on-campus opportunities to network with industry partners, lesser academic scholarship opportunities available (at least in engineering fields) as compared to other California universities, no independent PhD degree provided by SDSU
Required Exams for Admission
It was a very learning experience for me. I gained a bunch of research opportunities, network with academic professionals via conferences, very supportive professors, ample on-campus job opportunities to help with sustenance.
Course Curriculum
Course curriculum and academics for Bioengineering department were in-line with industry standards for my interest i.e. MEMS. I was enrolled in a thesis included degree and therefore had ample research experience in academic lab.
Faculty
For MS courses, it varies depending on popularity of course. For me, it ranged from 1:4 to 1:20 faculty to student ratio. Specifically Prof. Sam Kassegne and Prof. Katira have been a major influence on my career trajectory.
Campus Life
I would highly rate research opportunities at SDSU, especially in engineering department. There were some very strong collaboration with University of Washington Seattle and MIT in our MEMS lab and gave a chance to form very strong research opportunities.
Placement
There were no campus placements for us. All my peers got jobs by networking and interviewing with companies themselves.
Accommodation
I took off campus accommodation which was a sharing apartment. There are many such opportunities at walking distance from campus.
Exams
I took two standardized tests. GRE 314/340 (Verbal 151 , Quant 163), TOEFL 100/120. SOP(1 page standard) , 2 x LORs and CV were required for admission.
Fees
Enrollment fees per semester - ~$2800/sem. Total 4 semesters for degree completion. Living expenses are additional.
Scholarship
Yes. I received 3 scholarships - Prebys Biomedical Research Endowed Scholarship, Shiley scholarship for Bioengineering, David G. Fleet scholarship.
