MHU Ph.D Vegetable Science: Fees 2026, Course Duration, Dates, Eligibility

Ans. MHU supports doctoral research in vegetable crop agronomy and production systems, vegetable plant breeding and varietal development, crop protection and integrated pest management for vegetable crops, post-harvest physiology and cold chain technology, protected cultivation techniques including substrate growing and fertigation, seed production and quality standards, and nutritional quality analysis of vegetables. Research scholars work in the university’s experimental vegetable plots, polyhouses, and laboratories under dedicated faculty supervision.

Ans. The minimum duration is 3 years as specified in MHU doctoral programme regulations. However, most scholars complete their degree in 4 to 5 years depending on the nature of their research problem and experimental scope. The first year involves mandatory coursework in two semesters. After clearing coursework, scholars register their thesis topic and begin supervised experimental research. Extensions beyond the minimum duration require prior approval from the doctoral committee and must comply with the university’s maximum permitted duration.

Ans. Admission is entirely through the CCSHAU CET organised by Chaudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agricultural University, Hisar. The 2026 exam is scheduled for July 19. Candidates must register on hau.ac.in and also apply separately on the MHU portal (mhu.ac.in) with a counselling fee of INR 1,000. After the merit list is published, online choice filling takes place July 21-27. Seat allotment is on August 6, 2026. Applicants with ICAR AIEEA PG scores may also apply for the 15% all-India quota seats.

Ans. MHU does not provide a universal institute-funded stipend to all PhD scholars. Candidates who independently qualify for ICAR JRF (Junior Research Fellowship) or ICAR SRF (Senior Research Fellowship) awards can utilise those during their doctoral tenure at MHU. The ICAR National Talent Scholarship supports eligible postgraduate students in agriculture and allied science disciplines. Haryana state government research fellowships for SC/BC/EWS students are also available through the national scholarship portal at scholarships.gov.in.

Ans. Doctoral graduates can apply for Scientist positions at ICAR institutes such as ICAR-IIVR Varanasi (Indian Institute of Vegetable Research). State horticulture departments and agricultural universities across India recruit PhD holders as Research Officers and Assistant Professors after qualifying UGC-NET. Seed companies, vegetable export firms, and agri-processing companies also hire PhD graduates in technical advisory, product development, and quality assurance roles. National horticulture missions and agriculture extension programmes offer additional avenues.

Ans. Yes. CCSHAU CET is open to all Indian nationals. However, the majority of MHU’s PhD seats are reserved for Haryana domicile candidates. Out-of-state applicants compete in the open category for the remaining seats. ICAR AIEEA PG qualifiers may apply for 15% all-India quota seats. All candidates must register on both the CCSHAU portal and the MHU portal within the specified deadline and pay the applicable counselling fee to participate in the seat allotment round.
