AU Ph.D. (Commerce and Management) FAQs
Ques. I have cleared UGC-NET but not JRF. Am I still exempt from the Apex University Ph.D. entrance test?
Ans. Yes. Apex University's exemption policy covers candidates who are UGC-NET qualified (not just JRF holders). The policy states that candidates who are "UGC-NET/UGC-CSIR NET/SLET/GATE/CEED/Teacher fellowship holder or have passed M.Phil. programme" are exempt from the university's entrance test. So a UGC-NET qualified candidate (without JRF) is eligible for exemption. You will still need to appear for the personal interview conducted by the Departmental Research Committee.
Ques. Can I pursue the Ph.D. in Commerce and Management on a part-time basis while working? What are the conditions?
Ans. Yes, Apex University offers a part-time Ph.D. option for working professionals. The minimum duration is 4 years (8 semesters) and the academic fee is Rs. 50,000 per semester (compared to Rs. 60,000 for full-time). You must submit a No-Objection Certificate (NOC) from your employer on the organisation's letterhead at the time of admission. The NOC must confirm that your employer has no objection to your pursuing the Ph.D. and will grant you leave to attend course work. GATE/NET/JRF scores are not mandatory for part-time candidates.
Ques. What research areas are available under Ph.D. Commerce and Management at Apex University? How do I choose a supervisor?
Ans. The Ph.D. in Commerce and Management at Apex University covers research areas including business management, finance, marketing, economics, human resource management, organisational behaviour, and commerce. The intake for Commerce is 4 seats and Management is 2 seats per cycle (as per the December 2025 notification). Supervisor allocation is done by the Departmental Research Committee based on your research proposal and the availability of faculty guides. It is advisable to review the list of Ph.D. guides available on the university website and align your research proposal with their areas of expertise before applying.
Ques. What is the maximum time allowed to complete the Ph.D.? What happens if I cannot submit my thesis within 3 years?
Ans. The minimum duration for a full-time Ph.D. at Apex University is 3 years (6 semesters) and the maximum is 6 years. If you are unable to submit your thesis within 3 years, you must register for the next semester and pay the applicable semester fee (Rs. 60,000 per semester) until you submit. If you fail to submit within 6 years, your registration may be cancelled. There is no provision for fee refund under any circumstances, so it is important to plan your research timeline carefully.
Ques. Is a CA or MBA qualification sufficient to apply for Ph.D. in Commerce and Management at Apex University?
Ans. For MBA graduates: Yes, an MBA with minimum 55% marks from a UGC-recognised university qualifies you for Ph.D. admission. For CA (ICAI) qualified candidates: Yes, Apex University explicitly recognises CA qualification from ICAI with minimum 55% marks as eligible for Ph.D. admission in the relevant field. Similarly, CMA (ICWAI) and CS (ICSI) qualified candidates with 55% are also eligible. This is a significant advantage for working professionals with professional qualifications who wish to pursue doctoral research.
Ques. How many seats are available for Ph.D. Commerce and Management, and how competitive is the admission process?
Ans. Based on the December 2025 notification, Apex University offered 4 seats in Commerce and 2 seats in Management for the January 2026 intake - a total of 6 seats. The June 2025 intake had 2 seats in Commerce. Given the limited seats, the admission process is competitive. Selection is based on performance in the written entrance test (CBT) and personal interview. Candidates with UGC-NET/JRF or GATE qualifications are exempt from the written test and directly called for interview, giving them a significant advantage in the selection process.
