AU MA Psychology FAQs
Ques. Is MA Psychology from Apex University recognised for pursuing a career as a licensed psychologist or therapist in India?
Ans. MA Psychology from Apex University is a UGC-recognised degree from a university established by the Rajasthan State Legislature Act. However, to practise as a clinical psychologist or therapist in India, you typically need an M.Phil in Clinical Psychology (recognised by the Rehabilitation Council of India, RCI) or an M.Sc/MA in Clinical Psychology from an RCI-approved institution. The MA Psychology programme at Apex University is a general psychology degree and is suitable for careers in counselling, HR, research, and teaching, but does not by itself qualify you for RCI-registered clinical practice. Students aiming for clinical practice should plan for further specialisation after this degree.
Ques. Does the MA Psychology programme at Apex University include practical lab work and internships, or is it mostly theoretical?
Ans. The programme has a strong practical component built into every semester. Each semester includes General Lab sessions, Project Work, and Social Outreach activities as part of the curriculum. Additionally, internships in mental health organisations, hospitals, or corporate settings are described as an integral part of the programme. The Semester 4 curriculum specifically includes Psychological Testing, which involves hands-on administration and interpretation of standardised tests. Students are advised to confirm the specific internship structure and duration with the department before admission.
Ques. Can I appear for NET/JRF in Psychology after completing MA Psychology from Apex University?
Ans. Yes, you are eligible to appear for the UGC NET/JRF examination in Psychology after completing MA Psychology from a UGC-recognised university, which Apex University is. Clearing NET qualifies you for Assistant Professor positions in colleges, while clearing JRF makes you eligible for research fellowships and PhD admissions with financial support. Psychology is a separate paper in UGC NET, and the MA curriculum at Apex University covers most of the relevant topics including psychological theories, research methods, statistics, and applied psychology areas that are tested in the exam.
Ques. What is the difference between MA Psychology and MA Clinical Psychology at Apex University? Which one should I choose?
Ans. Apex University offers both MA Psychology (general) and MA Clinical Psychology (a separate, specialised programme). MA Psychology is a broader programme covering clinical, counselling, organisational, health, and educational psychology, and is suited for students who want flexibility in career options including HR, counselling, teaching, and research. MA Clinical Psychology is a more focused programme specifically designed for students aiming for clinical practice and mental health intervention roles. If your goal is specifically clinical work or therapy, MA Clinical Psychology would be the more targeted choice. However, note that for RCI-registered clinical practice, an M.Phil in Clinical Psychology is typically required regardless of which MA you pursue.
Ques. What are the realistic job opportunities and salary expectations after MA Psychology from Apex University?
Ans. Graduates of MA Psychology can work as counsellors in schools, colleges, and corporate settings; HR executives and talent acquisition specialists; psychological researchers in academic or government institutions; content writers or trainers in mental health awareness; and as educators at the school or junior college level. Entry-level salaries in counselling and HR roles typically range from Rs. 2.5 to 4.5 LPA in Rajasthan and nearby regions. Salaries are higher in metro cities and for those who pursue additional certifications or specialisations. The degree's value increases significantly if combined with NET/JRF qualification, an M.Phil, or relevant certifications in counselling or HR.
Ques. How does the AUCET scholarship disbursement work for MA Psychology, and what happens if I miss the performance criteria in one semester?
Ans. The AUCET scholarship is not credited from the first semester. In Semester 1, you pay 50% of the annual fee upfront. The scholarship benefit is applied from Semester 2 onwards, subject to meeting the continuation criteria: minimum 75% attendance, minimum 60% marks or CGPA 6.0 in each semester, achieved in the first attempt, with no year or semester drop. If you fail to meet these criteria in any semester, the scholarship is discontinued for that academic year. However, if you regain eligibility in the following year, you can reapply for the scholarship by November 30 of that year. Swapping between scholarship schemes is not permitted, and only one scholarship can be availed at a time (except EBR and Alumni scholarships, which can be combined with others).
