CSMU B.Sc (Hospitality Studies) FAQs

Ques. What is the difference between B.Sc (Hospitality Studies) and BHM (Bachelor of Hotel Management) at CSMU?

Ans. Both programs are offered at CSMU under the Faculty of Commerce, Management and Hospitality, but they differ in duration, fee, and depth of coverage. B.Sc (Hospitality Studies) is a 3-year program costing Rs. 90,000 per year (total Rs. 2,85,000 including registration), while BHM is a 4-year program costing Rs. 1,20,000 per year (total Rs. 4,95,000 including registration). The BHM program is more comprehensive and industry-aligned for hotel management careers, while B.Sc (Hospitality Studies) provides a science-based foundation in hospitality operations and is suitable for students who want a shorter, more affordable program. Both programs include practical training in CSMU's Food Production Lab.

Ques. Does B.Sc (Hospitality Studies) at CSMU require MAH BHMCT CET for admission?

Ans. No, B.Sc (Hospitality Studies) at CSMU does not require MAH BHMCT CET. The MAH BHMCT CET is a Maharashtra state-level entrance exam specifically for BHM programs at government and government-aided institutions. CSMU, being a private university, admits students to B.Sc (Hospitality Studies) through its own CSMUCET, CUET UG scores, or direct merit-based admission for students scoring 80% or above in 10+2. Students who have cleared state/central government competitive exams are also exempted from CSMUCET.

Ques. What practical training facilities are available for B.Sc (Hospitality Studies) students at CSMU?

Ans. CSMU has a dedicated Food Production Lab for hospitality students, which is a practical training space where students learn culinary skills, cooking techniques, and kitchen operations. The lab provides hands-on experience in food preparation, presentation, and professional kitchen management. Additionally, students undergo mandatory internships in relevant hospitality industries as part of the curriculum, giving them real-world exposure in hotels, restaurants, and other hospitality establishments before graduation. The university also has smart classrooms with digital tools to support theoretical learning.

Ques. What career opportunities are available after B.Sc (Hospitality Studies) from CSMU?

Ans. Graduates of B.Sc (Hospitality Studies) from CSMU can pursue careers in hotel operations, front office management, food and beverage service, housekeeping management, event management, airline catering, cruise line hospitality, and tourism management. Entry-level roles include front desk executive, food and beverage associate, housekeeping supervisor, and banquet coordinator. With experience, graduates can advance to managerial roles in 3-star to 5-star hotels and resort chains. Students can also pursue a Master of Hotel Management (MHM) at CSMU itself for career advancement.

Ques. Is the B.Sc (Hospitality Studies) program at CSMU recognized and what is its scope compared to a hotel management diploma?

Ans. B.Sc (Hospitality Studies) at CSMU is a UGC-recognized degree program from a private university established under the Maharashtra Private Universities Act, 2014. It carries more academic weight than a diploma in hotel management and opens doors to both industry roles and higher education (MHM, MBA in Hospitality). The 3-year degree is also eligible for government job applications that require a graduate degree, unlike a 2-year diploma. CSMU also offers a Diploma in Hotel Management (2 years) for students who prefer a shorter program, but the B.Sc degree provides better long-term career prospects.

Ques. What is the fee refund policy if I take admission to B.Sc (Hospitality Studies) at CSMU and later decide to withdraw?

Ans. CSMU follows UGC guidelines for fee refunds. If you withdraw 15 or more days before the last date of admission, you receive a 100% refund of fees paid (excluding a processing charge of 5% of tuition fee, maximum Rs. 1,000). If you withdraw less than 15 days before the last date, 90% is refunded. Within 15 days after the last date, 80% is refunded. Between 15-30 days after the last date, 50% is refunded. After 30 days from the last date or after commencement of the academic session, no refund is given. Note that the registration fee of Rs. 15,000 and application fee of Rs. 1,500 are non-refundable under all circumstances.
