NIT Uttarakhand: Students' Opinion

AI-Generated Summary based on 22 Reviews

Admission to NIT Uttarakhand is based on the JEE Mains exam, with varying rank requirements for general and Uttarakhand residents. The admission process involves JOSAA counseling and document verification. The faculty, primarily holders of PhDs from prestigious institutions, offer personalized attention with a faculty-to-student ratio ranging from 1:4 to 1:10, though there is some lack of experience and frequent faculty changes. The temporary campus affects infrastructure, but faculty support remains strong.

Tuition fees are approximately Rs 80,000 per semester, with a hostel fee of around Rs 28,000, including refundable charges. Economically disadvantaged students benefit from income-based fee remissions and scholarships. The institute provides transparency in fee structures and offers online and offline payment options. Placements show promise, especially in the CS/IT sector, with average packages between 6-7 LPA and a highest of 38 LPA. The placement rate stands at 50%, with notable companies like Capgemini and Samsung R&D participating.

The ECE and Mechanical branches have high placement rates of 87% and 93% respectively, with the highest CTC for these reaching 21 LPA. Internship opportunities offer stipends up to 1 lakh per month. Despite challenges from its remote location and temporary campus, the college continually works to improve placement opportunities.

NIT Uttarakhand B.Tech ECE FAQs

Ques. Is NIT Uttarakhand a good college for ECE? What is the placement scenario like?

Ans. NIT Uttarakhand is a centrally funded Institute of National Importance, which gives it a strong brand value. For ECE specifically, the 2024-25 placement data shows an average CTC of Rs. 10.36 LPA and a median of Rs. 12 LPA, with companies like Google, Samsung, Adobe, and Siemens recruiting from campus. However, the batch size is small (around 35 students) and only about 17 students received offers in 2024-25, so the placement percentage is around 48%. Students who are proactive about internships and skill development tend to do well.

Ques. What is the JEE Main rank required for ECE at NIT Uttarakhand?

Ans. The closing rank for ECE at NIT Uttarakhand varies each year. For the General category (Gender-Neutral, Home State), the closing rank in JoSAA 2025 was typically in the range of 50,000-70,000 (CRL). For Other State quota, the closing rank tends to be slightly higher. SC/ST/OBC candidates have separate category-wise cutoffs. It is advisable to check the official JoSAA website for the most recent round-wise cutoff data.

Ques. Is hostel accommodation guaranteed for B.Tech ECE students at NIT Uttarakhand?

Ans. NIT Uttarakhand has hostel facilities on campus. However, since the institute is still developing its permanent campus, hostel availability may be subject to capacity. First-year students are generally accommodated in hostels. The hostel fee is Rs. 34,333 per semester (including mess advance), which is charged separately from institute fees. Students who do not avail hostel facilities will have the Other Hostel Charges (Rs. 3,400) refunded.

Ques. Can I get admission to NIT Uttarakhand ECE through CSAB if I miss JoSAA rounds?

Ans. Yes. If seats remain vacant after all JoSAA rounds, CSAB (Central Seat Allocation Board) conducts special rounds for NIT+ system institutes including NIT Uttarakhand. Candidates who participated in JoSAA but did not get a seat, or those who withdrew, can apply for CSAB special rounds. The eligibility and process are similar to JoSAA.

Ques. What specialisations or electives are available in the ECE B.Tech programme at NIT Uttarakhand?

Ans. The B.Tech ECE curriculum at NIT Uttarakhand covers core subjects like Analog Electronics, Digital Electronics, Signals and Systems, Communication Engineering, Microprocessors, VLSI Design, and Embedded Systems. In higher semesters, students can choose electives in areas such as Microelectronics, Advanced Communication Systems, Signal Processing, and related fields. The department also offers M.Tech programmes in Microelectronics and VLSI Design, and Communication Engineering, which ECE graduates can pursue for specialisation.

Ques. What is the difference between Home State (Uttarakhand) and Other State quota seats for ECE at NIT Uttarakhand?

Ans. As per JoSAA norms, 50% of seats at NITs are reserved for students domiciled in the home state (Uttarakhand in this case) and 50% for students from other states. For ECE at NIT Uttarakhand, the 2025 seat matrix shows 20 seats under Uttarakhand quota and 20 seats under Other State quota (total 40 seats). Home state candidates generally get admission at a higher closing rank compared to other state candidates, making it relatively easier for Uttarakhand domicile students to secure admission.

Which is better, IET Lucknow ME or NIT Uttarakhand ECE?

Shubham PandeyB.Tech Electronics and Communication Engineering, Institute of Engineering and Technology, Lucknow (2020)

NIT Uttarakhand is the last choice of the majority of students among all other NITs. It has the lowest ranking, poor placement records, and no awards or academic excellence. It is considered a Tier 4 institute.

On the other hand, IET Lucknow is a prestigious institution, especially for engineering students. It is one of the best UPSEE institutes in Lucknow. Moreover, it is considered academically strong and has earned good recognition.

Check the following table for a brief insight on relevant statistics of both institutes:

Particulars IET Lucknow NIT Uttarakhand
Total Fees 3.44 Lakhs 5.87 Lakhs
Highest Package 36 LPA 10.5 LPA
Average Package 5 LPA 6.8 LPA
Total Offers 100+ 90

Generally, ECE is better than ME but it applies to the institutes which are nearly on the same level. In this scenario, pursuing ME from IET Lucknow would be the better option in terms of placements, a recognition that would later help you in finding a job through off-campus placement.

Which is better NIT Uttarakhand ECE or IIIT Bhopal ECE?

Sushmita PahariB.Tech CSE, NIT UK (2018)

NIT Uttarakhand ECE is definitely a better choice than IIIT Bhopal ECE. NIT UK is a well-established institute with good placement records, while IIIT Bhopal was established just a few years back.

NIT Uttarakhand has the following advantages over IIIT Bhopal.

  • NIT Uttarakhand is an old and established institute and has already gained recognition throughout India.
  • The academics are better with experienced faculties.
  • Decent placements record in all branches especially CSE and ECE.
  • Better connection with the industry so can impart more practical knowledge to the student for the real issue in the industry.
  • According to the recent placement drives, the average CTC offered at NIT UK and IIIT Bhopal is 6.8 LPA and 4.5 LPA.
  • IIIT Bhopal does not even have its own campus yet. The upside of choosing IIIT Bhopal is you will get to learn from the faculties of MANIT Bhopal.
  • Bhopal is also a good location with better connectivity to the other parts of India.

If you are okay going to a fairly new institute, then you can go for IIIT Bhopal. But if you want a convenient college life then choosing NIT UK will be better.

Fees and Financial Aid:

The year wise tution fee is 70000 per semester for general or obc catogory students. However their is a option for tution fee remision according to your family income certificate. If your family income is lower than 1lakh per year, then you got 100% remision(means your tution fee is zero). If your family income is greater than 1lakh but less than 2.5 lacs per year than you have to pay 2/3rd of the tution fee.If your family income is greater than 2.5 lacs per year than you have to pay full tution fee. For sc and st students tution fee is 0. Other fee is mess and hostel fee. If you opt for hostel with mess than you have to pay hostel fee which is nearly 8000 and mess fee which is 22000. If you don't opt for hostel and mess than you don't have to pay these fee.(But note that you have to take both mess and hostel. You can't take only hostel.Either take both or none).Other chages are around 10000 per semester which include charges like seat rent, internet, book bank exam fee ,etc. So your tution fee is according to your family income as mentioned and other fee is around 40K per semester.
