Integral University Ph.D. Mathematics FAQs
Ques. What is the difference between full-time and part-time Ph.D. programs in Mathematics at Integral University?
Ans. The full-time Ph.D. (Mathematics) program requires a minimum of 3 years and maximum of 5 years for completion as per UGC regulations. Full-time candidates are expected to be present on campus regularly, engage in continuous research, and complete coursework and dissertation within this timeframe. Part-time Ph.D. programs, on the other hand, have a minimum duration of 4 years and maximum of 6 years, allowing working professionals to pursue research while maintaining employment. Full-time students typically have better access to laboratory facilities, faculty mentorship, and university resources, whereas part-time students have more flexibility in managing their research schedule alongside professional commitments.
Ques. Am I eligible for the Ph.D. program if I have a B.Tech degree instead of an M.Tech or M.Sc.?
Ans. Yes, you are eligible if you have a B.Tech degree in a relevant engineering discipline with a minimum of 75% marks or 7.5 CGPA on a 10-point scale, along with either a valid GATE score or a minimum of 2 years of professional experience in a relevant field. However, candidates with Master's degrees (M.Tech, M.Sc, MBA, MCA, M.Pharm) with 55% marks or equivalent grade 'B' on the UGC 7-point scale are the primary target group for Ph.D. admissions. If you have a B.Tech degree, you should ensure you meet the additional requirements of GATE score or professional experience to strengthen your application.
Ques. What happens if I don't qualify the IUET entrance test but have a valid UGC NET/JRF score?
Ans. If you have a valid UGC NET/JRF, CSIR NET/JRF, GATE, GPAT, or ICAR NET/SLET score, you are automatically exempt from appearing in the IUET entrance examination. However, you still need to appear for the Presentation & Personal Interview round, where you will present your research proposal and undergo subject knowledge assessment. Your final selection will be based on your performance in the presentation and interview. This exemption recognizes your qualification in national-level entrance tests and streamlines the admission process for already-qualified candidates.
Ques. What is the Integral Research Fellowship (IRF) and how can I avail it?
Ans. The Integral Research Fellowship (IRF) is a monthly stipend of Rs 6,000 awarded to the candidate who secures the 1st rank in the Ph.D. entrance test in the Mathematics discipline. To be eligible for IRF, you must appear in the IUET entrance examination (even if you are exempt from it based on NET/JRF qualification) and secure the top rank among all Mathematics Ph.D. applicants. The fellowship is disbursed monthly throughout your Ph.D. program duration. Additionally, all Ph.D. applicants who qualify the written test and interview are eligible for the IUET Scholarship, which provides tuition fee waivers. The IRF is a highly competitive award recognizing academic excellence in the entrance examination.
Ques. What is the research proposal presentation component of the admission process, and how should I prepare for it?
Ans. The research proposal presentation is a crucial component of the Ph.D. admission process where you present your tentative research work in a maximum of 8 PowerPoint slides. Your presentation should include: (1) Tentative title of your proposed research, (2) Introduction to the research area, (3) Clear research objectives, (4) Hypothesis or research questions, (5) Proposed methodology and approach, (6) Work components and timeline, and (7) Bibliography of relevant literature. This presentation is evaluated for 30 marks by the Research and Development Sub-Committee. To prepare effectively, review recent research papers in your area of interest, identify research gaps, formulate clear objectives, and practice your presentation to ensure clarity and coherence. The committee assesses not just your knowledge but also the feasibility and originality of your proposed research.
Ques. Are there any ongoing admission processes or counselling dates I should be aware of for the current year?
Ans. For the 2026-27 academic session, applications are currently open with a tentative deadline of July 21, 2026 (based on the 2025-26 cycle pattern). The IUET entrance examination is scheduled tentatively for August 2026, with results expected by August 8, 2026. Presentation and personal interviews will be conducted in August-September 2026, with the final selection list announced tentatively on August 20, 2026. The batch commencement is expected in September-October 2026. However, these dates are tentative and based on the previous year's schedule. It is recommended to regularly check the official Integral University website (www.iul.ac.in) and the admission portal (admission.iul.ac.in) for the official notification and exact dates for the 2026-27 session, as the university typically releases the detailed admission notification in April-May each year.
