GBU MCA FAQs
Ques. What is the difference between MCA and B.Tech Computer Science, and why should I choose MCA?
Ans. MCA is a specialized 2-year postgraduate program designed for graduates from any discipline, making it ideal if you didn't pursue engineering at the undergraduate level. Unlike B.Tech which is a 4-year undergraduate program, MCA provides advanced, industry-focused training in computer applications and AI technologies. MCA graduates often command higher starting salaries and have access to specialized roles in AI, data science, and software development. The program is particularly valuable if you want to transition into tech from a non-technical background or deepen your expertise after completing a non-technical bachelor's degree.
Ques. Is GBU MCA placement-focused, and what kind of companies recruit from this program?
Ans. Yes, GBU has a strong placement record with 75%+ placement rate and average package of 12.59 LPA. The university has partnerships with 60+ leading companies including TCS, Infosys, Wipro, HCL, Tech Mahindra, IBM, Amazon, and Microsoft. The Corporate Relations Cell (CRC) actively facilitates campus drives and internships. However, placement depends on your performance, technical skills, and interview preparation. The university provides placement support through mock interviews, resume building, and industry mentorship programs.
Ques. Can I pursue MCA if my bachelor's degree is not in Computer Science or IT?
Ans. Absolutely! One of the key advantages of MCA is that it accepts graduates from any discipline. The eligibility criteria only require a bachelor's degree with minimum 50% marks (45% for SC/ST). However, having mathematics at 10+2 or graduation level is preferred as it helps in understanding core concepts. If you don't have a strong math background, you may need to put in extra effort during the first semester, but the curriculum is designed to accommodate students from diverse educational backgrounds.
Ques. What is the total cost of the MCA program, and are there payment options available?
Ans. The total fee for the 2-year MCA program is approximately ₹4,00,400 rupees, including academic fees, registration, security deposit, and other charges. This breaks down to about ₹2,00,000 rupees in academic fees plus ₹1,00,400 rupees in other charges. The security deposit of 10,000 rupees is refundable. SC/ST students receive 50% scholarship on tuition fees. EMI options may be available; you should contact the admission office at 0120-234 4255 for details. Additionally, hostel accommodation is optional and costs extra (50,000 per annum for single room).
Ques. How competitive is the admission process, and what entrance exams are accepted?
Ans. GBU accepts multiple entrance exams including NIMCET, CAT, MAT, CMAT, XAT, and state-specific exams like MAH-MCA-CET and JECA. Alternatively, direct admission is available based on merit in your bachelor's degree. The competition level varies depending on the exam you choose. NIMCET is specifically designed for MCA and typically has moderate competition. CAT is highly competitive but accepted by GBU. Direct merit-based admission is less competitive but depends on your bachelor's marks. Most candidates score between 50-70% in entrance exams for successful admission.
Ques. What is the campus life like at GBU, and are there extracurricular activities for MCA students?
Ans. GBU is a fully residential campus with excellent infrastructure including hostels, sports facilities, libraries, and recreational centers. The campus has 11 boys' hostels and 7 girls' hostels with modern amenities. MCA students can participate in various cultural clubs, technical societies, sports events, and the annual cultural festival Abhivyanjana. The university encourages participation in seminars, workshops, and industry interactions. However, hostel accommodation is optional for some programs. The campus provides a vibrant learning environment with opportunities for networking, skill development, and personal growth beyond academics.
