AMU BDT FAQs
Ques. Is NEET required for admission to BDT at AMU?
Ans. No, NEET is not required for the BDT (Bachelors in Dialysis Technology) programme at AMU. Admission is based solely on the AMU Paramedical Entrance Test conducted by Aligarh Muslim University. The entrance test covers Physics, Chemistry, and Biology at the 10+2 level. Students who have passed 10+2 with PCB and at least 50% aggregate marks are eligible to apply and appear for this test.
Ques. What is the duration and structure of the BDT programme at AMU?
Ans. The BDT programme at AMU is a 3-year full-time undergraduate degree. The curriculum covers subjects such as Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry, Principles of Dialysis, Haemodialysis Technology, Peritoneal Dialysis, Renal Pathology, and Patient Care. The programme also includes 2 semesters of compulsory unpaid internship at JNMCH, where students get hands-on clinical training in the hospital's dialysis unit. Classes are held on campus in full-time mode.
Ques. How many seats are available for BDT at AMU, and how competitive is the admission?
Ans. There are 25 seats available for the BDT programme at AMU. Of these, 50% (approximately 12-13 seats) are reserved for internal AMU students (those who have completed their 10+2 from AMU schools). The remaining seats are open to external candidates from across India. Given the limited seats and AMU's reputation, the programme is quite competitive. Students with strong PCB scores and good preparation for the AMU entrance test stand a better chance.
Ques. What are the career prospects after completing BDT from AMU?
Ans. Graduates of the BDT programme from AMU are well-placed to work as Dialysis Technicians or Renal Care Technicians in hospitals, nephrology departments, dialysis centres, and kidney care clinics. With the rising incidence of chronic kidney disease in India, the demand for trained dialysis technicians is growing steadily. AMU's JNMCH has a strong placement record for paramedical students, with several graduates being placed in reputed hospitals. Some graduates also pursue higher studies such as M.Sc. in Renal Sciences or go abroad for better opportunities.
Ques. Is hostel accommodation available for BDT students at AMU?
Ans. Yes, hostel accommodation is available on the AMU campus for BDT students, subject to availability. AMU has separate hostels for male and female students. Hostel fees are charged separately and are not included in the tuition fee. Students are advised to apply for hostel accommodation early, as seats are limited. The hostel provides basic amenities including meals, Wi-Fi, and security. Students from outside Aligarh are given priority in hostel allotment.
Ques. Can I apply for the BDT programme at AMU if I have completed my 10+2 from a state board outside Uttar Pradesh?
Ans. Yes, students from any recognized board across India are eligible to apply for the BDT programme at AMU, provided they meet the eligibility criteria of 50% aggregate marks in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology at the 10+2 level. AMU's entrance test is open to all eligible candidates regardless of their state or board. However, it is important to note that approximately 50% of seats are reserved for internal AMU students, so external candidates compete for the remaining seats. The application is done entirely online through the AMU admissions portal.
