AMU BRTT FAQs
Ques. Is NEET required for admission to BRTT at AMU?
Ans. No, NEET is not required for admission to the Bachelor of Radiation Therapy Technology (BRTT) programme at AMU. Admission is through AMU's own Departmental Test (course code: RTBDA), which is a written test based on Physics, Chemistry, and Biology at Class 12 level. This is different from MBBS, BDS, and B.Sc. Nursing at AMU, which require NEET scores. Students who have not appeared in NEET can still apply for BRTT at AMU, making it an attractive option for PCB students interested in a career in radiation therapy and cancer care.
Ques. What is the scope of Radiation Therapy Technology as a career in India?
Ans. Radiation Therapy Technology is one of the most in-demand paramedical careers in India, driven by the rapidly increasing incidence of cancer. India has over 1,400 radiotherapy machines and the number is growing, creating a significant demand for trained radiation therapists. Graduates of BRTT can work as Radiation Therapists in cancer hospitals, government medical colleges, private oncology centres, and research institutions. With experience, they can advance to senior therapist, dosimetrist, or quality assurance specialist roles. The salary for a fresh BRTT graduate typically ranges from Rs. 20,000-35,000 per month in government hospitals and Rs. 25,000-50,000 per month in private cancer centres.
Ques. What is the clinical training like for BRTT students at AMU?
Ans. BRTT students at AMU receive clinical training at the Radiation Oncology department of Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College (JNMC), which is one of the leading medical colleges in North India. JNMC's Radiation Oncology department is equipped with modern radiotherapy equipment including Linear Accelerators (LINAC), Cobalt-60 machines, and brachytherapy units. Students get hands-on training in patient positioning, treatment planning, quality assurance, and radiation safety. The 6-month compulsory internship provides intensive clinical exposure. The large patient volume at JNMC ensures that students gain experience with a wide variety of cancer cases.
Ques. With only 4 seats, how competitive is the BRTT admission at AMU?
Ans. The BRTT programme at AMU is extremely competitive given the very limited intake of just 4 seats per batch. Hundreds of students apply for these 4 seats each year. The selection is based purely on merit in AMU's Departmental Test. Candidates with strong scores in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology at Class 12 level and good performance in the departmental test stand the best chance. Internal candidates (those who completed Class 12 from AMU's own schools) have a slight advantage through the internal quota. Candidates are advised to prepare thoroughly for the departmental test and aim for top scores.
Ques. What is the difference between BRTT and B.Sc. Radiography/Medical Imaging Technology?
Ans. BRTT (Bachelor of Radiation Therapy Technology) and B.Sc. in Medical Radiology and Imaging Technology (MRIT) are two distinct paramedical programmes. BRTT focuses specifically on radiation therapy - the use of ionising radiation to treat cancer and other diseases. MRIT focuses on diagnostic imaging - X-rays, CT scans, MRI, ultrasound, etc. used for diagnosis. BRTT graduates work in radiation oncology departments alongside oncologists, while MRIT graduates work in radiology departments. Both are offered at AMU's Para Medical College. Students interested in cancer treatment should opt for BRTT, while those interested in diagnostic imaging should opt for MRIT.
Ques. What documents are required at the time of AMU counselling for BRTT?
Ans. At the time of AMU counselling for BRTT, candidates must produce: (1) Original Class 12 marksheet showing Physics, Chemistry, and Biology with at least 50% aggregate; (2) Class 10 certificate for date of birth verification; (3) Character Certificate from the Head of the Institution last attended; (4) Migration Certificate from the Board/University last attended; (5) Medical Fitness Certificate from a registered medical practitioner; (6) Category certificate (SC/ST/OBC/EWS) if applicable; (7) AMU Internal status certificate if claiming internal quota. All documents must be produced in original along with self-attested photocopies.
