BSAU B.Tech Lateral IT FAQs
Ques. What is the difference between B.Tech regular and B.Tech Lateral Entry (IT) at BSAU?
Ans. B.Tech Lateral Entry allows diploma holders and B.Sc. graduates to directly enter the second year (3rd semester) of the B.Tech programme, effectively completing the degree in 3 years instead of 4. The curriculum is the same from the second year onwards. This is a significant time and cost advantage for diploma holders who want a full engineering degree.
Ques. How is the fee determined for B.Tech Lateral Entry (IT) at BSAU?
Ans. The tuition fee is merit-linked to your overall diploma percentage. Students scoring 90% and above pay Rs 1,25,000 per year, while those below 60% pay Rs 2,50,000 per year. The fee slab is fixed at the time of admission and remains the same throughout the programme. The one-time amenities fee of Rs 40,000 is charged at admission.
Ques. Can B.Sc. graduates apply for B.Tech Lateral Entry (IT) at BSAU?
Ans. Yes. B.Sc. graduates with Mathematics (at least at ancillary level) from a recognised university with a minimum CGPA of 5.0 or 50% marks are eligible. However, such candidates must undergo additional subjects as per the institute's norms to bridge any gaps in the engineering curriculum.
Ques. Is CIEAT mandatory for lateral entry admission at BSAU?
Ans. No. Candidates with valid JEE Main scores are admitted directly without appearing for CIEAT. Others must appear for CIEAT-2026, which is conducted online (proctored mode). The CIEAT-2026 Phase I is scheduled for April 25, 2026.
Ques. Are lateral entry students eligible for campus placements at BSAU?
Ans. Yes. Lateral entry students are fully eligible for campus placements alongside regular B.Tech students. The CSE/IT department at BSAU has a strong placement record with top recruiters including Infosys, TCS, Cognizant, IBM, Accenture, Capgemini, HCL, Tech Mahindra, Zoho, and Amazon. The median salary for UG graduates from BSAU was Rs 4.25 LPA as per NIRF 2023 data.
Ques. What diploma branches are eligible for B.Tech Lateral Entry (IT) at BSAU?
Ans. Candidates who have passed a Diploma in the appropriate branch of Engineering/Technology from an AICTE-approved institute are eligible. For IT, relevant diploma branches include Computer Science, Information Technology, Electronics, and related fields. The institute verifies branch eligibility at the time of admission; candidates should confirm with the admissions office at +91-95432-77888.
