BVDU Pune Ph.D FAQs

Ques. Can GATE or UGC-NET qualified candidates skip the BVDU PET written test for PhD admission?

Ans. Yes. Candidates with a valid GATE, UGC-NET, or CSIR-NET score may be exempted from the BVDU PhD Entrance Test written round, subject to Research Advisory Committee approval. They must still attend the RAC interview and research proposal defence in July 2026, which is mandatory for all candidates regardless of qualifying score status.

Ques. What is the Research Advisory Committee (RAC) interview and how important is it in BVDU PhD selection?

Ans. The RAC interview involves presenting and defending the research proposal before a faculty committee of the relevant constituent college. The committee assesses the scientific soundness of the proposed topic and the candidate’s domain knowledge. A poorly prepared or unfocused research proposal is the primary reason for rejection at this stage; candidates should prepare a specific, feasible proposal well before the interview date.

Ques. Are the Ayurveda PhD disciplines open to MBBS graduates or only to BAMS postgraduates?

Ans. Ayurveda PhD disciplines at BVDU (Kayachikitsa, Panchakarma, Rachana Sharir, and others) require an MD or MS in the relevant Ayurveda specialisation obtained through the AYUSH route. These programmes require a BAMS plus postgraduate Ayurveda qualification; MBBS graduates cannot apply. Similarly, Homoeopathic PhD disciplines require BHMS plus postgraduate homoeopathy qualifications.

Ques. Does BVDU Pune offer a monthly stipend to full-time PhD scholars?

Ans. No institutional stipend is disclosed in the published fee structure. Unlike central government institutions, deemed university PhD programmes typically charge full fees without a compensating monthly stipend. Scholars holding a valid UGC or CSIR JRF may access the national fellowship independently; the university channels external fellowships through its central research cell.

Ques. What is the maximum duration allowed for the BVDU Pune PhD and what are the thesis submission conditions?

Ans. The minimum duration is 3 years; the maximum is up to 6 years under UGC PhD Regulations 2022, with extensions on doctoral committee approval. Thesis submission requires completion of mandatory coursework, at least one publication in a UGC-CARE listed journal, and pre-submission seminar clearance by the Research Advisory Committee.

NEET qualification is not necessary to get admission in the B.Sc Nursing program of BVDU. The university conducts its own entrance test. Students will be shortlisted for admission based on the merit of this entrance test.
