MG University M.Sc Polymer Science: Fees 2026, Course Duration, Dates, Eligibility

Ans. This is a university department programme offered exclusively at the School of Polymer Science and Technology (SPST), which is a dedicated teaching and research school within Mahatma Gandhi University's main campus at Priyadarshini Hills, Kottayam. It is not offered in any affiliated college. This means students get direct access to MGU's advanced polymer research infrastructure, experienced faculty, post-doctoral fellows, and industry collaborations - advantages that are simply not available in affiliated college programmes.

Ans. Both are 2-year M.Sc. programmes at MGU but are distinctly different. M.Sc. Industrial Polymer Science and Technology (SPST) is a specialised, industry-oriented programme focused on polymer processing, rubber, fibre, nanoscience, and industrial applications, with the entire final semester dedicated to industrial/research internship. M.Sc. Chemistry (Polymer Chemistry) at the School of Chemical Sciences is a chemistry-based programme with polymer chemistry as a specialisation within the broader chemistry curriculum. Students targeting a dedicated polymer science career with industrial exposure should prefer the SPST programme, while those interested in chemistry research with a polymer focus may consider the latter.

Graduates can pursue careers in the polymer, rubber, plastics, composites, and materials industries in roles such as polymer technologist, quality control analyst, R&D scientist, process engineer, and materials scientist. Kerala's significant rubber industry and the growing plastics and packaging sectors across India are major employers. Ans. Yes. Unlike many polymer science programmes that restrict admission to chemistry graduates, MGU's M.Sc. Industrial Polymer Science and Technology accepts B.Sc. graduates from Life Science, Computer Science, Physics, and Mathematics backgrounds as well, provided they have at least 50% marks. B.Tech graduates from Polymer Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Biotechnology, Material Science, and Mechanical Engineering are also eligible. This broad eligibility makes the programme accessible to a wide range of science and engineering graduates.

Ans. MGU has separate hostel facilities for boys and girls on its Priyadarshini Hills campus. Since SPST is located on the main campus, M.Sc. IPST students can avail of hostel accommodation. Hostel accommodation is optional and not mandatory. Students need to apply separately for hostel allotment after securing admission. The hostel fee is approximately Rs. 8,760 per year (subject to revision). Given that the campus is located about 13 km from Kottayam town, many outstation students prefer to stay in the hostel or in nearby private accommodations.

Ans. MGU has created an additional 20% of seats (over and above the sanctioned strength of 10) exclusively for candidates with a valid CUET-PG score under the Open All India Quota. This means students from outside Kerala who have appeared for CUET-PG can apply for these additional seats without competing in the state-level MGU CAT rank list.
