Ques. Is the MGU LLM a full-time course and what are the class timings?
Ans. Yes, the LLM at MGU's School of Indian Legal Thought is a full-time, on-campus programme. Classes are held at the SILT campus within the MGU Priyadarshini Hills campus, Kottayam. Students are required to attend regularly as per the university's attendance norms (minimum 75% attendance is mandatory for appearing in semester examinations). The programme runs over 4 semesters across 2 academic years, and students are expected to be present on campus throughout the duration of the course.
Ques. Which specialization should I choose in the MGU LLM - Constitutional Law, Criminal Law, Environmental Law, or IPR?
Ans. The choice of specialization depends on your career goals. Constitutional and Administrative Law is ideal if you aim for civil services, judicial services, or constitutional litigation. Criminal Law is suited for those targeting criminal practice or prosecution services. Environmental Law is a growing field with opportunities in NGOs, regulatory bodies, and green litigation. Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) is highly relevant for those interested in corporate law, technology law, or working with IP firms. All specializations are equally recognized, and the choice should align with your long-term legal career aspirations.
Ques. Can I apply for MGU LLM if my LLB results are awaited?
Ans. Yes, candidates who are awaiting the results of their final semester of the LLB examination are eligible to apply for MGU CAT and appear in the entrance examination. However, they must produce the original mark sheets and certificates of the qualifying examination before the closing date of admission as announced by the university. Admission will be cancelled if the required documents are not submitted within the stipulated time.
Ques. What is the exam pattern for the MGU CAT LLM entrance test?
Ans. The MGU CAT for LLM consists of 80 objective-type (MCQ) questions with 4 choices each. The duration of the test is 2 hours (120 minutes). Each correct answer carries 1 mark, and there is no negative marking for incorrect answers. The syllabus is based on LLB-level law subjects. The LLM entrance exam is scheduled in Session III (2:30 PM - 4:30 PM) of the CAT MGU examination day. Candidates should thoroughly revise core law subjects including Constitutional Law, Criminal Law, Contract Law, Torts, and other LLB-level topics.
Ques. Is hostel accommodation available for LLM students at MGU?
Ans. Yes, MGU provides hostel accommodation for both boys and girls on campus. There are 6 hostels in total (3 for boys and 3 for girls). The hostel fee is approximately Rs. 1,900 per month, which includes mess charges. Accommodation is subject to availability and is not guaranteed. Students must apply through the university's hostel portal (hostel.mgu.ac.in) after securing admission. Priority is generally given to students from outside Kottayam district and those from distant states.
Ques. What are the career prospects after completing LLM from MGU?
Ans. An LLM from MGU opens doors to a wide range of legal careers.
