MG University B.F.A Applied Arts: Fees 2026, Course Duration, Dates, Eligibility

Ans. BFA Applied Arts at MGU is a full-time, on-campus programme offered at the Government RLV College of Music and Fine Arts, Tripunithura, Ernakulam. It is a 4-year regular programme with yearly examinations. The first year is a common integrated BFA course for all three specializations (Painting, Applied Art, Sculpture), and specialization in Applied Arts begins from the second year. Students are required to attend college regularly and participate in practical studio sessions, workshops, and examinations.

Unlike most MGU undergraduate programmes that admit students through the centralized CAP (merit-based allotment based on Plus Two marks), BFA Applied Arts admission at RLV College is based on an Aptitude Test and Interview conducted by the college itself. The aptitude test assesses practical drawing and applied art skills, while the written test covers art history and visual arts knowledge. This means that even students with lower Plus Two marks can secure admission if they demonstrate strong artistic aptitude.

Graduates can also pursue MFA Applied Arts (2-year postgraduate programme) at RLV College itself, or apply for teaching positions in fine arts colleges after completing MFA.

Ans. The seat intake for BFA Applied Arts is 15 seats per year. In the first year, 40 students are enrolled in the common integrated BFA course, of which 15 are selected for Applied Arts, 15 for Painting, and 10 for Sculpture from the second year onwards. Given the limited seats and the aptitude-based selection process, admission is competitive. Students with strong drawing skills, a good portfolio, and knowledge of art history have a better chance of selection.

Ans. Yes. There is no stream restriction for BFA Applied Arts admission at RLV College. Candidates from any stream - Science, Commerce, or Humanities - who have passed Plus Two or equivalent are eligible to apply.
