Prospective students seeking admission to the Central University must take the Central University Common Entrance Test (CUCET) and have their 12th-grade marks evaluated. High scorers attend counseling sessions to learn about courses and opportunities. The Trivandrum campus primarily employs faculty on a contract basis, but aims to appoint permanent staff by the 2020-2021 academic year. Despite their temporary status, most guest lecturers hold Ph.D. degrees, and the faculty-to-student ratio is 12:1.
The faculty are highly qualified, knowledgeable, and supportive, although the choice of optional papers is limited due to fewer students and faculty members. Established under the Central Universities Act of 2009, the institution offers quality education with affordable fees. The total course fee for a BA is under 15,000 INR for three years, excluding hostel fees. The admission fee is Rs. 9,654, and semester fees range from Rs. 2,000 to Rs. 3,000, with the first semester costing around Rs. 8,000 to Rs. 9,000 due to one-time charges.
Despite the low fees, no scholarships are offered. There is no placement cell, and students secure their own internships with faculty assistance. A compulsory 14-day internship is required before the 5th semester. Students can approach institutions like Jawaharlal Nehru University for internships. After graduation, many pursue further studies or government jobs.
